We got our rain gear on yesterday and started harvesting for this Tuesday's farmstand! Stand will be open at 9am and we will have the regular line up of produce! Just a reminder that there will be NO farmstand on Saturday, January 2nd. We hope all our customers had a lovely holiday break and hope to see you on Tuesday.

We harvested in the snow/rain and bagged up into the night to be fully stocked for today's farmstand! We will be OPEN. Temperatures are to go up to 6C so hopefully everyone will get a chance to come out and get some produce before the Christmas break. Be careful on the roads this morning as they are slick!

With frosts in the morning our winter veggies are getting sweeter and sweeter out in the field! Many vegetables create sugars to protect their cell structure from freezing! What a bonus for our customers : ) We have a full field of winter veggies and will be open all winter long! Some teaser pictures for some winter delights still to come onto the farm stand.

With the first couple winter storms hitting the island nothing is as comforting as a cozy soup, stew or oven roast. The star of all of these has been squash! We grew 9 different kinds of squash this year and each can be the star of a dish. Robin did a great little display of our squash with write ups. All are available on our farmstand and we hope these write ups give inspiration for some lovely winter meals.

It is always heartbreaking this time of year to pull out all of our tomato plants and make way for the winter greens in our greenhouses. It is critical timing to get things seeded now to allow for all winter harvest of salad greens. Fall is slowly taking hold with apples ripening, onions drying and a big squash harvest getting ready to come in. At Metchosin Market, get ready for our new sign! The talented Wendy Mitchell felted us a beautiful new sign for the market using local Metchosin wool.

Fall is in the air and our farm is ramping up for our winter veggie season. July/August is like a second spring and we get the majority of our winter crops in while battling the fast growing summer weeds. We are finally getting ahead of the weeds and the farm is starting to take shape for the winter season ahead. Seed cleaning is in full swing too with many of our 30 seed crops ready for harvest. Growing a farms own seed is one of the most powerful things a farmer can do. We are proud of almost growing 95%+ open pollinated varieties at Sea Bluff Farm!
