We would like to thank those many family, friends and clients in Newfoundland for their messages of support and encouragement during these crazy times. My wife suffers debilitating symptoms from Lyme disease and the 30+ degree days, horrible humidity and the smog of the Ontario summers incapacitates her severely. The Newfoundland climate is indeed a much needed healing balm to her over all health. As to the matter of the lawsuit we are currently engaged in with the Province ...there is a lot of misconception on the part of Newfoundlanders as to the intent of the lawsuit. The lawsuit simply asks the province to immediately rescind the illegal and discriminatory ban preventing Canadians like us who have lived in the province seasonally since 2006, from coming home to Newfoundland to be with family and friends and operate our home based business. We pay all the taxes, utilities and other things all property owners in Newfoundland do and have the right to expect to be treated fairly. The headlines in the press make it sound as though we are suing the govt for millions of dollars in personal damages. This is incorrect. We simply want the govt to rescind immediately their discriminatory and illegal ban on letting us come home to Newfoundland where our heart is. It is however true that the suit warns the govt that if they do not comply with the law that they may face punitive damages, which could total millions of dollars, from the thousands of Canadians that they have been unlawfully discriminating against. It is the choice of the govt whether they wish to continue this illegal law and face potentially millions of dollars in fines for violating the law or not. We are simply reminding them that they are responsible for the rules they put in place and that they are not above the law. We ourselves, acting responsibly, expect to abide by the rules as to the 14 day self isolation period in our home which is in effect for most people and we simply ask to be treated fairly.
