Vacation or expedition? Choose your own adventure in Desolation Sound! We offer two distinct types of camping tour into this extraordinary area on the BC coast. Our vacation tours are great for families or those looking to relax as much as travel, while our expeditions are perfect for those that want to go deep into the coastal mountains, passages and fjords north of Desolation Sound. Read more about both tours on our blog!

Guides and guests discuss the route for the day as they leave Cabana Desolation Eco Resort one day this past summer. Orcas in Desolation Sound! This group was spotted on Thursday near Feather Cove after spending the morning deep in Malaspina and Okeover Inlets. We're hearing reports of humpback whale sightings early in the season as well! #exploredesolation
Another fantastic post from PRSK guide @thewattersedge, paddling in Desolation Sound in the spring of 2019. Learn more at www.bcseakayak.com Only those that risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go. T.S Elliot
A beautiful Desolation Sound golden hour moment captured by PRSK guide @thewattersedge - who has been consistently filling our Instagram and Facebook feed with incredible shots like this over the last couple years! Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.
The Province of British Columbia has recently indicated in their ‘BC Restart Plan’ that hotels, resorts, and overnight camping will be allowed to open again in June 2020, with camping in provincial parks specifically slated to resume June 1st. We are currently developing our COVID Safe Plan so we can reopen our eco resort and camping tours to guests in accordance with the delegations from our Federal and Provincial governments, as well as the direction of our local and provin...cial health authorities. Initial plans are to open for overnight kayak rentals starting June 1st, with kayaking tours and eco-resort packages to hopefully follow safely and shortly thereafter. In anticipation of trips this summer, please check out the calendar on our website for availability and start dreaming of a local, coastal British Columbia experience! www.bcseakayak.com #exploredesolation
We're all missing those Desolation Sound sunsets at the moment. This view looks up Lewis Channel from the point at Cabana Desolation Eco Resort some years ago. #exploredesolation
We have been running tours in Desolation Sound and coastal British Columbia for more than 25 years, and Toba Inlet is one of the jewels of our dramatic mainland inlets. Lucky guests on our 7 day expeditions may get the chance to explore amongst the towering mountains and cascading waterfalls of this truly special kayaking destination! #exploredesolation
Towering coastal mountains, idyllic island camps, pristine sea kayaking conditions - Desolation Sound is just half a day's travel north of Vancouver and we have tours and eco resort packages for everyone, from families to solo travellers to truly adventurous explorers. We have dates on our website for tours and packages through to the end of 2021 - just click through and take a look at what we offer! www.bcseakayak.com... #exploredesolation
We're dearly missing moments like these right now, but we know that we're all doing the right thing now so that we can enjoy each others' company as soon as possible! Last year this group of 10 adventurous guests and 2 guides looped around West Redonda Island and explored Pryce Channel and Toba Inlet on an epic 7 day expedition. #exploredesolation @thewattersedge
The impossibly steep mountains and cascading waterfalls of remote Toba Inlet make this coastal fjord a once-in-a-lifetime paddling destination - and we go there with guests a select few times a year! Our 7 day expedition tours aim to truly explore deep into remote coastal British Columbia, via the channels, inlets and passages north of Desolation Sound. Toba is just one of the incredible kayaking destination we may get to visit on these loop-style adventures, each one as spec...tacular as the last! #exploredesolation
A five day expedition exploring remote Pryce Channel last summer. Paddling from west to east around the top of West Redonda Island, this beautiful passage is one of our favourite spots to paddle. Sheer, verdant green mountainous slopes on both sides, you really get the feeling that you're travelling deeper and deeper into the mountains. #exploredesolation
The steep and dramatic coast mountains of British Columbia. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon, but for the meantime pretty pictures will have to do! #explorebclater Shot taken from above Tenedos Bay in Desolation Sound.
British Columbia or the South Pacific? A new perspective of a classic kayaking destination in Desolation Sound. Can anyone identify this idyllic and popular location? Can you spot your favourite campsite on these islands? Let us know! #exploredesolation
Oh how we long to paddle deep into the coast mountains once more! Our expeditions explore the passages and inlets north of Desolation Sound, looping around one or both of the Redonda Islands and back to our waterfront base in Okeover Inlet over 5 or 7 days. #exploredesolation @thewattersedge
Self-isolation can be hard, but the wild places will still be there when we come out the other side. Desolation Sound was looking an absolute treat earlier this week, and we took the drone out on the boat to capture some incredible photos and video as we did a maintenance check on Cabana Desolation Eco Resort. Here we see Prideaux Haven in the foreground and the sheltered waters of Homfray Channel snaking its way north from Desolation in the shadow of the immense Coast Mounta...ins, with iconic Mount Denman covered under heavy snow early in the year. #exploredesolation
Even on gloomier days Desolation Sound can inspire and delight. Two of our guests on the final day of an expedition tour last season leave the Curmes and begin the paddle back to Okeover. #exploredesolation
Three of our MSR tents perched up on their own private bluffs on an expedition tour last summer. The remote nature of our expeditions mean we leave the relative comforts of Desolation Sound and explore deeper into the coast mountains, but that's not to say we leave all luxuries behind! Our guides continue to deliver the same world class service and attention to detail, and the scenery isn't too bad either... ... #exploredesolation
It may not seem like it at the moment, but one day soon we will be back enjoying these incredible views each morning in our rooms at Cabana Desolation Eco Resort, with freshly brewed coffee on the table and the sounds of gently lapping waves on the shore below. All the cabanas at our resort have unbeatable views, as well as on demand hot water showers to wash the salt water away after a wonderful day on the water. Not bad for an off-grid eco-resort! #exploredesolation
