Since new news came out today regarding Owl's Head, thought I'd post this beautiful photo album again. The NS Provincial government negotiated selling this land at $306. per acre to a private American developer so that they could blow up the rocky ridges and convert them to sand and install a golf course and extensive fancy housing. The cheap price per acre was specifically negotiated while the land was still designated as a PUBLIC park, and the price was low because a park i...s not allowed to be developed for private commercial purposes. They did this before it was delisted, because otherwise it would have been too expensive for the developer. They also did this secretly, because they knew there would be public outcry if they allowed the info to go public before the deal was sealed. Once the deal was made, the government took the land off the parks and protected areas list, but the price for the sale remained the same. Thank goodness this matter is before the courts. I hope the court case goes well, for nature and for the people of NS. See more
