When you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders,the best thing to do is slip into a kayak and head out onto the Bay . A beautiful sunny warm November afternoon .. the sun sparkling on the water. I paddled out to Dinner Island at the mouth of the Harbour. As I approached, a mature Bald eagle took flight . I changed direction and followed the eagle north. I was in flow .. time passed quickly.. Loons, Eider ducks and seals joined me on the freedom paddle . Wind and tide ...brought me to Barnes Island .. A sandy beach and the resting place of a beautiful eaglet that we held ceremony for last summer . This would be my last visit of the season ,so I carefully placed wild roses and rose hips inside the cairn and offered blessings . I also collected roses for the special ones at home . I paddled directly into the setting sun on the way back. The healing sunbeams and waves filled my heart and soul with a sense of calm , peace and hope . This likely would be my last paddle .. a way of giving thanks to a special place for giving me so much Pura Vida See more

I struggled to decide whether I should write the following post . It is an incredibly powerful, emotional experience. In the end I decided it is an important story full of depth , meaning and love to share ... If you are touched ...please share so the young eagle will continue to soar ... Hugs( abrazos) Bruce Spirit Eagle August 22 2020... My paddlers arrive for a full day experience this to celebrate their first year anniversary. They have chosen an incredibly beautiful day, flat calm conditions, blue sky and warm sun shining. The options for paddling on a day like this are endless. I decide to take the couple on a slightly different route and we head straight out to the offshore islands Spruce, Sandy and White. The tide is flooding and the current is moving nicely through ledges and rocky islets. As we near White Island there is a blow and Slice, a minke whale joins us. We continue to paddle towards White island in order to get out of the current flow and find a cove so we can rest and watch Slice in his feeding pattern. An adult Bald Eagle calls out from a perch and then disappears to the other side of the island. We watch Slice for 10 -15 minutes and then decide to travel north to Barnes island where we will break for lunch on a beautiful sandy beach. Just prior to leaving, I notice a bird that seems to be struggling on the floating seaweed forest. I paddle over and discover that it is a young eagle that has left the nest too soon? The baby eagle is breathing slowly and has broken its neck I carefully scoop up the beautiful white , snowy eagle and cradle her in my arms on the deck of my kayak. I gently caress the eagles head and beautiful feathers and she looks intently at me with a brilliant clear eye and then suddenly the life force is no longer. My guests are very patient and supportive throughout the eagle rescue. A decision is made that we can’t leave this beautiful animal floating in the ocean by itself. I paddle with the eagle on my spray skirt for the next hour to our lunch destination on Barnes Island. There is not a lot of conversation as we paddle through the easy waves, each of us in our own thoughts. Upon arriving at the beach on Barnes I slowly get out of my boat with my passenger. The three of us collect some beautiful stones to build a cairn where we will lay the eagle to rest. We also gather fresh wild roses to place over this magnificent creature. We each offer silent blessings in our own way So many thoughts...so many feelings that I will have to sit with to find understanding. I am grateful to have been there so that this beautiful young eagle didn’t have to die alone Life is precious and so fragile everything is connected and we need to take care of each other and work together to help mother Earth to heal. Thank you to my young guests who also showed love and respect for the Eagle Soar my young friend...
