S N O W S H O V E L L I N G Winter has arrived which means we all have to dig out our shovels! Tips:... Start Early: shovel throughout the snowfall instead of all at once Warm-up: do an active warmup such as walking briskly and air squats Pace Yourself: do not rush and take plenty of breaks Use Proper Equipment: using a small bent-handled shovel can help reduce bending and reduce the weight Proper Lifting Mechanics: squat with your legs hip-width apart, knees bent and back neutral. Push the snow, avoid lifting and throwing large amounts of snow. If you need to lift the snow scoop a small amount at a time and walk to where you need to place the snow #novascotiasnow #novascotiaweather #snowshoveling #chiropractic #chiropractor #seasidechiropractic

Posted @withregram @drheatherross We should all practice diaphragmatic breathing! This is an exercise everyone can benefit from. It is often a first line rehab exercise for prenatal and postnatal women however, I would argue just about everyone can benefit from this exercise. ... The diaphragm is a dome-shaped muscle located just below the lungs and heart and it is the primary muscle used in breathing. When you inhale, your diaphragm contracts and moves downward. When you exhale, your diaphragm relaxes and moves upward in the chest cavity. We are all born with the knowledge of how to properly engage the diaphragm. Just watch a baby breath. They expand 360 degrees through their abdomen as they breath in and out. Over time however our lifestyle, habits and injuries often cause dysfunctional breathing patterns. Need more convincing to incorporate diaphragmatic breathing into your daily routine? You will also benefit from the following: Stress relief Improved core muscle stability Improved exercise tolerance Improved respiratory capacity Improved posture Lower blood pressure/slowed heart rate Help in managing intra-abdominal pressure Pelvic floor strengthening Release of tension in the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles #diaphragm #diaphragmaticbreathing #chiropractor #rehab #corerehab #postpartum #prenatal #postpartumrehab #prenatalrehab #postpartumexercise #prenatalexercise #prenatalchiropractorhalifax #halifaxpostnatal #halifaxpostnatalexercise #postpartumhealth #postpartumsupport #postnatalhealing #fourthtrimester
