Seaside Massage Therapy Ltd. 29.09.2020

Hello everyone! Today we received an approved return to work protocol for massage therapists. This week, I’ll be working hard to ensure I have everything in place to safely reopen. I’m hoping to acquire all necessary PPE (personal protective equipment) in the coming days with the goal to reopen on June 11th. As you may have guessed, there will be some changes within the clinic as we navigate this new normal.... 1. I ask that clients remain in their vehicles until their allotted appointment time. This will allow me to properly sanitize the clinic between appointments. 2. I’ll only be offering therapeutic and relaxation massages for the time being. Intra-oral massage is unfortunately too high risk at this time, and I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. 3. The day before your appointment, you’ll receive an email containing a COVID screening survey. Please fill out this survey before your appointment. 4. All clients will be required to wear a mask. If you don’t own one, I will happily provide a disposable mask for a small fee. 5. I will also be wearing a mask at all times and ensuring proper sanitation of the office. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. I’d like to thank everyone for being so patient and understanding. I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon! Hello everyone! Regarding the update made today by the Premier and Dr. Strang, Massage Therapy clinics will be permitted to reopen as of June 5th. How exciting! I won’t have a specific reopening date for my office until I acquire all necessary personal protective equipment. I am, however, aiming to open early to mid-June. I will keep you all updated as time passes. Thank you for your patience and I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Today marks one full year of business and I couldn’t be more grateful! I’d like to acknowledge all my clients and those who’ve supported me on this journey. I hope everyone is doing well and I can’t wait to be back in the clinic (hopefully soon)! In the meantime, I’ve decided to use a portion of my time in isolation to learn about the academic and emotional components of chronic pain; my goals are to better understand clients who suffer with chronic pain and to treat them mor...e efficiently. Thank you once again for your continued support! Andrée

COVID-19 UPDATE: 2 WEEK CLOSURE After careful consideration, I have decided to close the clinic until further notice, effective immediately. Unfortunately, the nature of this profession puts both the massage therapists and clients at risk. Following the recommendations of the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness, we are encouraged to be at least 6ft apart from others which is not possible in this field of work. While considering the population at risk and the burden ...that this virus could have on our health care system here in Nova Scotia, I will be preventatively closing the office for now. This is less than ideal, but necessary under the current circumstances. I look forward to treating you all again once it is advised and safe to do so. -Andrée

To my valued clients, I would like to address any concerns you may have regarding the potential spread of COVID-19. The clinic prides itself on a high standard of cleanliness and I am doing my part to ensure the highest level of sanitation between each appointment. Some of my clients are more vulnerable than others and their well-being is always my priority.... That being said, If you have any flu-like symptoms, have come in contact with someone who has, or are coming home from vacation, please wait 14 days before booking an appointment. There will be no penalty for cancelations. Thank you for understanding and I hope everyone stays safe and healthy. -Andrée

Lets talk piriformis syndrome: Many people suffer from sciatic nerve pain. This is typically characterized by pain beginning in the low back/glute area that radiates down the leg and into the foot. It is important to figure out, first and foremost, where the issue is stemming from. Sciatic nerve pain can be a result of: Lumbar spine stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back), degenerative disc disease (degeneration of discs between vertebrae that act as cushi...ons), disc herniation in the low back, and any other condition that puts pressure on the L4-S3 nerve roots. However, did you know sciatica symptoms are not solely linked to issues with the spine? There is a condition known as pifiromis syndrome in which the sciatic nerve is compressed by the pifiromis muscle located deep in the buttock. A tight pifiromis muscle can cause compression of the sciatic nerve that runs either directly underneath the muscle, or, in some cases, runs through the muscle. The causes of piriformis syndrome include: postural or occupational stress, pregnancy, hip injuries or sacroiliac joint injuries. The symptoms of piriformis syndrome can include: Dull ache in the buttock, radiating pain in thigh, calf and foot and reduced range of motion of the hip joint. The symptoms are typically exacerbated when sitting for long periods of time or walking up stairs/on an incline. Massage therapists can aid in recovery of sciatic nerve pain by firstly assessing the piriformis muscle, assessing for disc issues, nerve root lesions and sacroiliac joint issues. A treatment plan would be made based on these findings. Refer to last photo for a great piriformis stretch. Be sure to warm up before stretching and hold this stretch for 30sec. (The leg that is crossed over the other is the one being stretched)
