Sometimes people tell me that they don't like to bother writers because they think they don't like to be bothered. However, I believe that most writers thoroughly enjoy finding out how their solitary pursuits delight or affect people. This winter I read an insightful, simple but complex little book (On Tyranny) written by Timothy Snyder. I noted that he was a Yale professor, so it was simple to find an e-mail contact and I fired off a short message to tell him that I had read his book twice and appreciated it so much. Within minutes, I had a response of appreciation back (from someplace in Europe!). There you go. Writers are people too.
A most amazing strawberry tea with 25 or so wonderful people in Walkerton, Ontario! I spoke briefly on the power of fiction to transform lives, then read a chapter from The Season for Strawberries. The women prepared such a beautiful tea and I had a lovely old rocking chair from which to read. Anxiously awaiting a read-copy of the sequel to this novel in June.
Wonderful evening last night at Thames Road-Elimville Church Strawberry Supper. Imagine preparing a meal for 500 people! Here I am chatting to happy customers who purchased a good summer read, "The Season for Strawberries."
