It's great having Ten Thousand Villages here in town, new within the last month. Coupled with the fabulous Franni's Attic (antiques at GREAT prices), super ladies and men's wear at Cashmere & Cobwebs, Cranberry Lane and C Squared, and the famous TWIN'S ICE CREAM SHOPPE, we are made in the shade!!

We are entering the SEVENTH year of Seasons House Bed and Breakfast! Goodness, time does fly, doesn't it? We still so enjoy the business. We're getting a little older (ha ha) and so have lightened our load slightly by eliminating single night stays, except in special circumstances.

Bayfest, Port Rowan's fabulous Labour Day festival, is almost here! Sip and Savour, featuring local vendors, will be providing mouth-watering food and drink options. Non-stop entertainment too! Cost is $5.00 beforehand - tickets sold at Pharmasave - or $10.00 at the door. Held at the Community Centre here in Port Rowan.

Long Point Bird Observatory is now open! Soooo fun to watch the staff as they measure, weigh, examine the wee birds! LPBO will be open every day until November, except for rainy days.

This year, this grand old home called Seasons House celebrates its 100th birthday, officially becoming a century-old home. We are so privileged to maintain and enjoy this southern-style "mansion". More than that, what a privilege to share our home with guests coming from around the world.

The water is warming up beautifully in Lake Erie - time for a swim! Sunbathers are flocking to the 40 km beach. Later in the day finds them in line for the best ice cream in Ontario at Twins Ice Cream Parlour!

Yes!!! Spring has sprung, the weather is warming (a little!), Twins Ice Cream Parlour will open April 3rd (weekends only during April), the tundra swans are still spreading their beauty here, and the robins are gettin' into the mood. Guests here have been lovin' on those swans!

First weekend in April!! The ice is totally gone from the inner bay here; it is wonderful to see Lake Erie here! We were further east along Lake Erie yesterday. The shoreline there is a little north of Port Rowan, and the lake was still frozen. First weekend in April! That means Twins Ice Cream Parlor is now open on weekends til Thanksgiving. Yay! Gotta get a treat today. This is the best ice cream in Ontario!

Here are some of the Tundra Swans in a field here in Port Rowan. They are a fascinating, friendly, noisy bunch to watch!

One clear sign of spring is Tundra Swans flocking into Port Rowan. They are on their way north for the summer, but enjoy a spring vacation here in town! John and I just saw about 1,000 swans gathered in a nearby field, making their delightful honking noises to each other. More and more were flying in; there must have been a mass email sent out advertising the party! ha ha!

About 50 large, graceful sandhill cranes were gathered together not far from here today. They are resident cranes that stay here well into the winter season, until the weather forces them to go south. The group can be as large as a couple of hundred birds. I love the dance they do before they fly!

Owl banding has just begun at Long Point Bird Observatory. So neat to see Saw Whet Owls as the staff measure, weigh and band these small owls. Owl banding takes place at night (after dark), while the banding of other small birds happens in the morning. Yesterday we saw a Tennessee warbler, ruby-crowned kinglet, myrtle warbler, hermit thrushes, etc. while staff held these little cuties for banding.

John and I were at Simcoe's Norfolk Fall Fair today. Lots of fun!! It is the fifth largest fair in Ontario. Much to see and do. Check out the website: http://www.norfolkcountyfair.com

August is glorious this year! The beach is fantastic and the lake is warm. Ahhh, sooo relaxing and enjoyable. Weekends at Seasons House are getting booked up, but there's still a little room left for those wanting a getaway. For those interested in birds, from August 15 to late fall folks have the opportunity to watch Long Point Bird Observatory staff weigh, measure and band the little guys. You can even touch the birds, and photograph them close up. So cute!

Well winter arrived Saturday! We got some snow and the bay has begun to freeze over. We have had a mild one so far. A flock of about 500 Tundra Swans have remained here as well as some Sandhill Cranes. Lots of other birds hanging around. Amongst them lots of waterfowl and about 20 Bald Eagles.

Seasons House Bed and Breakfast 12.04.2020

Sharon and I watched a Bald Eagle try to nab a duck for lunch today. We watched for some time and he didn't succeed. Notice the birds in the upper right they are also Bald Eagles. There were about 20 of them on the ice today.

Friday January 13 and we got our first real snowfall, maybe 1 inch (1.5 cm). We have had just a couple of dustings so far. Our snowblower is feeling neglected. Being Friday the 13th we would expect to see lots of Harleys. There have been a few go by this winter and I wouldn't be surprised to see some today.

Seasons House Bed and Breakfast 13.03.2020

It is January 11 and we still have some Tundra Swans hanging around. There is still a large (100+) flock of Sandhill Cranes as well. It won't be long and they will be returning from the south on their way north, about the beginning of March.
