Charcoal based products are quite popular today. Charcoal is absorbent, can remove toxins, and can help with exfoliation due to its abrasive texture. Microbeads... are a current ingredient in most of todays cosmetic products. However, the Federal government has put a ban on Micro-beads as of July 2018. Micro-beads are being banned due to their impact on the environment they are known to be harmful to fish, pollute water systems/lakes/oceans with plastic. Charcoal is a natural abrasive that actually promotes healthy water systems.An excellent replacement for synthetic microbeads is naturally abrasive organic charcoal, that will not only biodegrade when released in the environment, has the potential to improve environments in which it ends up. Most of the charcoals used in current soap products today are highly activated charcoals generated using excessively high energy and non-green processes. For example, in a furnace at high temperatures of 1200 C with steam in the absence of oxygen, or by the addition of heat (450900 C) coupled with acids like phosphoric acid. Additionally, they are almost entirely generated overseas typically from crops rather than waste products and shipped across the ocean to Canada, further increasing the carbon footprint of the product.
