Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre 29.11.2020

The SSAC joins the country in remembering and respecting all those who have served.

Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre 17.11.2020

The SSAC is closed from November 923, 2020 per Dr. Bonnie Henry’s advice and instructions to protect our members from the current surge of Covid-19 cases. All activities during this period are cancelled with the exception of food services and membership renewal. The Q&A scheduled for November 10 is also cancelled. We will communicate our re-opening as soon as we have approval.

On November 10, the Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Centre. Immediately following (1:30 pm), we invite you to an open forum in the auditorium. Questions will be fielded by board members, and suggestions accepted on a number of fronts. Unfortunately, we cannot swing wide the doors and have you all come. Full COVID-19 protocols will be enforced, and dictate that we can only have 40 people in the auditorium, so we need you to pre-register for this opportunity. Please e-mail us at [email protected] so we can save you a seat!

Here's our activity schedule for the weekend of October 3 & 4, 2020. This schedule may change from week to week during the election period. Factors that may cause changes are other SSAC activity groups requiring time and any Pickleball sessions not filling adequately or being in too much demand.

For all who were coming to the weekly get-togethers at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre for the Fountain of Uke ukulele group, we have started meeting once again every Friday 11:30am-12:30pm outside the Sechelt Library under the canopy that is there. Proper distancing protocols are in place, of course. This community group is for everyone no matter the level of player you are or even if you just want to come and "hang out" with us. You don't even have to be a "senior." It's always lots of fun! We would love to see you there!

Thank you to the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation for their generous support during these difficult times. As our programming has been greatly curtailed, so has our ability to sustain ourselves. The SCCF recognizes the Centre's importance to our senior population.

Welcome to the new world! We're talking about solar energy and how it can save bucks and the environment. Look at how much the Centre has saved in the power bill. Since the initial installation of panels, courtesy of the James Pawley Legacy and the Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association, $650 has been realized. How about that! And we're currently on track to save $1300 this year, as projected. Yahoo! By the way, our statistics have been received and our offset was 27 trees. Just in July! Every little bit helps, too. With additional panels, we can save even more. Your donations will make a difference. Watch here for regular updates on how much we’ve saved.

If you think that we were just sitting around waiting for the skies to clear with this whole health emergency going on, well you can think again. Meet Jim Cofn, custodian extraordinaire who has done an amazing "spruce-up" on the Centre. Jim has done a wonderful job steam-cleaning all the fabric chairs, stripping and sealing the oors, and totally reorganizing the storage room off the auditorium. Besides these accomplishments, Jim undertook the massive job of repainting the ...auditorium. The transformation is truly uplifting. Besides the fresh coat of paint, Jim applied a varathane nish to protect walls from scuff marks. His ingenuity was tested when he painted the window blinds in the Craft and Farish Rooms. The result is truly remarkable. Jim has been a contract employee at the Centre for the past 10 years. He is the person that comes in after all the action has nished for the day. Each night, Jim works diligently to prepare the Centre for the next day. During this health emergency, Jim is focused on deep cleaning and sanitizing all areas of the Centre. We all congratulate and thank Jim for all he does for the Centre and the membership.
