Hello Friends, The Federal Reserve has indicated at least 2 more interest rate increases by the end of 2022. However, as inflation will eventually start slowing down later this year, mortgage rates may not rise as quickly as they have been lately. Still this is very important for everyone specifically who has variable mortgage rates, to know that what is TRIGGER RATES and how that can impact on your mortgage.... It occurs when prime rate goes up so much that your fixed payment no longer covers the interest you owe each month. That point is called the trigger rate. When you hit the trigger rate, your lender will increase the fixed payment on your variable-rate mortgage to ensure you're covering the interest due. Tip: Prime rate would typically have to rise 2% or more in order for the trigger rate to be exceeded.
