Last Thursday night (February 11), as the Trent Valley Archives’ webinar for its members on how to date photographs, began, local MPP, Dave Smith, and a volunte...er from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Les Kariunas, were invited to say a few words. Thanks to a $15,700 Capital grant awarded in 2019, the Archives was able to make needed upgrades to its site which will help extend the life of the building in the years to come. As someone who considers himself a bit of a history buff, I appreciate the value of local historical societies like Trent Valley Archives. This grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will ensure that their important work will continue for years to come, said MPP Dave Smith. Located at 567 Carnegie Avenue, the Archives welcomed the grant from the Foundation to improve its premises and infrastructure. The funds helped replace five aging, single-paned windows, installing new double-glazed windows which not only improve the Archives’ interior lighting, but help with its energy efficiency. In July, the site’s surface drainage was improved through exterior grading which added five new parking spaces. Finally, in October, new eaves-troughs and downspouts were purchased, and were installed by volunteers. The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $115 million to 644 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.

I'm sure by now that most of you have seen our Ennismore Commemorative Military Monument lit up at night. Isn't it beautiful? The 5 of us on the Cairn Subcommi...ttee are delighted with the finished product. This couldn't have been accomplished without funding from Veterans Affairs Canada and without the amazing work done at the site by Jeff Parnell and Don Young. We now just have a small amount of bookwork to complete for VA. Please notice in one of the pictures a memory box that we put in the wall, containing among other things the names of 150+ Ennismore veterans that are listed in the basement of St Martin of Tours Catholic Church and on the Plaques at Heritage Park in Bridgenorth. I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the committee Gail Murray-Smith, Pat Sinka, Deb Smith, Mary Claire Moher and myself. Do you drive an electric or hybrid vehicle? You're in luck! Selwyn Township has installed an electric vehicle charging station in the lower level parking area of the Municipal office (1310 Centre Line). This station is available to the public FREE of charge from Monday to Friday, 8:30AM to 4:00PM for a maximum of two hours. Outside those hours, the Township will be using the station to charge their Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle, which has been leased f...or one year. FREE charging and the vehicle lease are part of a federally funded, one year pilot project to inspire a reduction in transportation related fossil-fuel dependency. Thank you to Peterborough Mitsubishi and the Kawarthas Chapter of the Electric Vehicle Society of Ontario.
