Enjoying the first pages, especially your daughter’s Intro. ...(and) contents thus far (scenes, vacations, romance, ageing) ... chuckling at your rhyming words. The Outdoor Rink Those experiencing our winters are bound to think, Nothing is more Canadian than an outdoor rink. In December, waters freeze from coast to coast, ... So hearty folk lace up, enjoying winter to the most. Lakes become crystal ice under a vast expanse of snow. Glistening rectangles appear where ice begins to show. Then, downing shovels, youngsters grab their sticks And shoot pucks at goals made of boots or bricks. The oldest lad skates boldly down the ice monopolizing the puck While younger boys with lesser skills pursue with little luck. Clattering sticks and happy shouts soon dominate the play. Colourful neighbours watch and chat and enjoy a brilliant day. Alongside the game, a tasselled lass, bundled and petite, Now twirls, then whirls, her pirouettes a treat: A proud father helps his toddler step-skate with a chair. An earmuffed senior whooshes by, breath suspended in the air. Too soon, the solstice sun declines in chilly twilight glimmer. Quietly, adults drift away to prepare the evening dinner. Shinny shouts and clatter linger, ‘till the rink dissolves in gloom, And Christmas lights along the way guide the tired players home. In family rooms beside the shore, we gather round a cozy fire. Cinnamon and rum scents blend with damp socks and perspire. As rosy cheeks and excited chatter dispel the outdoor drear, An exhausted, contented tiredness enhances the good cheer. We ancient, ever-adolescent old-boys from Tofino to Cape Spear Recall our grand old shinny games this exciting time of year. Hockey’s dream is in our breasts despite we’re long of tooth: That river, pond or flooded yard; those shining playgrounds of our youth!

The poet’s mission is to convey emotion, To move a reader in a compact space, While accompanied by a primeval rhythm Awakening senses with passion and grace. Poets select each rhythm and word Even without melody, to create a refrain, Conjuring ideas in an emotional world... https://seniormomentspoetry.wordpress.com//the-mission-of/

I could identify with The Muskoka Chair. Even with my own, old chair, 'That ancient limbs struggle to unfurl'. A.T. Bristol, UK 2020 The Muskoka Chair ... Why would a sensible senior dare To carelessly sink in a Muskoka chair? The journey down is awfully long And many get the landing wrong. Yet, once ensconced, it cannot be beat For lakeside comfort and evenings sweet. For one broad arm can support martinis, While the other, glasses... for passing bikinis. But... when it is time to re-enter the world And leave the sunset’s social whirl, The body seems so snugly curled That ancient limbs struggle to unfurl.

Check out what people are saying about "Senior Moments"! I took that moment to sit down with Dr. W. Grant Thompson's book. Magical. So wonderful. What a beautiful collection. Now I can't wait to read more. A.P. London, ON. 2020... https://seniormomentspoetry.wordpress.com/ See more
