Shout Out to Vancouver Company Tochtech Technologies Providing Independence and Peace of Mind In April 2020 I wrote an article prompted by the Corona Virus pa...ndemic and the unexpected and rapid increase in breakouts in seniors care homes. A concern about caregivers spreading the virus left families worried. One of the biggest question I was being asked was should I cancel mom or dad’s caregiver service during the Coronavirus covid-19 pandemic? Every morning I check to ensure my client is following her usual routine. Please note, this does not take the place of caregiver support but may enhance how you plan your caregiver support. We are using Tochtech’s Vericare platform, which uses motion sensors and AI to track my clients Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as sleeping, showering, meal preparation, activity and social interactions, which helps develop an activity and behavior profile unique to my client. Notifications and alerts sent to my cell phone allow me to check for potential falls, unusual amounts of time outside of the house or the front door being left open, even an undetected heartbeat or change in breathing while in bed. Reports will show a change in daily/weekly routine. A helpful indicator with the Vericare platform is the ability to detect the risk of illness such as a urinary tract infection enabling me to set in place preventive care to help my client remain healthy for longer. We are also using Toch Smarturns intelligent knobs for the stove. This eliminates the worry of the stove being left unattended for longer than usual and ensuring safe cooking. You can make a quick call to mom or dad to ask them to check the stove to make sure it is turned off. My clients say they appreciate the security the services provide which in turn enables them to remain in their own home and its giving families and managers such as myself peace of mind. There are no cameras or microphones, all you need is a good Wi-Fi connection. I was surprised at the reasonable costs for the Tochtech system.
