How to Use a ‘First + Then’ Schedule! We shared a video earlier this week talking about how to use a visual schedule. We wanted to show you a more simple visual schedule that breaks it down to only two activities. Using a visual schedule helps increase independence in your child as it clarifies expectations. By putting a preferred activity in the then, it increases the child’s motivation to complete the first activity!... https://youtu.be/L9eziR4_NXg

Happy Monday! Our team has been busy trying to navigate how to best provide our OT services during this time. We have been embracing this new ‘online world’ through video chats, emails, phone calls, etc. We, like so many of you, are stepping out of our comfort zones in trying these new methods! One large step out of that comfort zone is creating YouTube videos. We appreciate everyone’s patience and kindness during this time of trying new things! ... We thought a good topic to cover with starting back after the spring break would be Visual Schedules! Please feel free to share these videos with any families you feel would benefit. https://youtu.be/i_sh3J0givo
Fun and exciting news! We're going to host a Drive In Movie at the CRA on Friday April 17th. We thought this would be a fun activity for everyone that still all...ows us to follow physical distancing rules. ONLY people from your household should be in the vehicle with you. Don’t fill your car with friends or neighbours that defeats the purpose of social distancing. We ask people to PLEASE respect this rule. The show starts at 8:30pm, when the sun goes down. More details are in the poster below Thanks to Fresh Air Cinema for sponsoring this event and helping us pull it together so quickly!
We hope everyone has a relaxing week off from school! Here are some activities to try over the break while you are at home!

https://www.flipsnack.com//coronavirus-soci/full-view.html We found this social story created by Easter Seals Illinois Autism Partnership, which would be a great resource to use to explain the COVID-19 situation to your children. We encourage you to only share information that is developmentally appropriate for your child. We know you know your child the best so try to only give them information that you know they will understand.

Obstacle Courses are an awesome way to work on several skills at once... not to mention super FUN!! One of our awesome OTAs created this obstacle course to help our friends work on motor planning, core strength, arm strength, balance, turn taking, and so much more!!
Mindful Monday . . Try making this glitter jar! .... Use the glitter jar as a mindful activity - have your child shake the jar and then watch the glitter settle to the bottom. . Take this a step further by relating this to your feelings - when you’re feeling upset (shaking the jar is similar to how you feel), calming and regulating your body is similar to the glitter settling. Happy International Women’s day! We are so proud of the amazing women we get to work with each and every day!
A friendly reminder that even when it doesn’t feel like it, we are all continuously growing
Mindful Monday . . Blowing Bubbles! This can be a fun spin on deep breathing.... As your child takes a deep inhale, help them imagine their lungs are like a bubble... slowly expanding and filling with air. In order to ensure bubbles form, your child will have to focus on breathing out slowly and consistently. Model this for your child to help them learn!
