SEPN co-investigator Dr. Alex Wilson discusses the potential of Indigenous land-based education to deal with the dark days of winter and the isolation of the pandemic. "Wilson says many of the lessons she and other land-based educators try to impart to students are useful for surviving the looming winter and ongoing pandemic isolation. 'Even though we may seem like we’re by ourselves, the thing about the land is it that it reminds us that we’re not, she said.'"... https://www.thestar.com//forget-friluftsliv-why-we-should-

The National Center for Science Education (NCSE) and the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund (TFNEF) conducted a comparative study to learn "how each state’s science standards for public schools address climate change." They found that "public education policymakers in many states are failing to ensure that science standards forthrightly and accurately address climate change. The scope and character of that failure are not uniform across the country, but they expose a serious deficit in the quality of science education in the United States." #SEPN #MECCE #ClimateEd https://climategrades.org/#intro

New research finds that "Between 1990 and 2018, the natural and technical sciences received 770% more funding than the social sciences for research on issues related to climate change. Only 0.12% of all research funding was spent on the social science of climate mitigation." The article also mentions that "Limiting global warming to 1.5C will require rapid and deep alteration of attitudes, norms, incentives, and politics. Some of the key climate-change and energy transition puzzles are therefore in the realm of the social sciences. However, these are precisely the fields that receive least funding for climate-related research." #SEPN #ClimateEducation https://www.sciencedirect.com//artic/pii/S2214629619309119

"In five years’ time, every student at Sheffield University whether they study maths, music or drama will also need to get to grips with sustainability. Be it the climate crisis, global poverty or gender inequality, every course will examine some of the major challenges the world faces...Rather than compulsory climate crisis lectures, each academic department will reimagine their curriculums through a sustainable lens." #SEPN #Sustainability #ClimateEd https://www.theguardian.com//we-deserve-to-be-taught-about
