#CanadaRemembers-Today is Remembrance Day in Canada. How will you remember those who have served and died for our country? http://ow.ly/MChz50CcDGb Today is a ...special time to stop and remember those who have served and died for our country over the years. The nation pauses at 11:00 am for two solemn minutes of silence to honour them. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Are you going to take part in a virtual or in-person ceremony today? A couple of weeks ago, the federal government issued an appeal, urging all seniors to file their 2019 Tax Returns if they have not already done so. If not, they risk seeing their GIS (Guaranteed Income Supplement) payments interrupted in January. More than 30% of Canadian older adults 65+ receive or are eligible for GIS payments, on top of their OAS pensions. But as of last month thousands had not yet filed their tax returns, which provide the information essential for calculating and paying their benefits. In the case of senior couples, both partners must file, since it is their combined income that determines their GIS benefits.

Scammers like to create a sense of (fake) emergency to pressure you into doing something immediately. Don't panic and #TrustYourGut. Take your time, hang up/close your computer and ask someone you trust what they think. #BeASavvySenior #FLM2020
