We had to say goodbye to another old friend today. Our resident wizard himself, Merlin, crossed the rainbow bridge. He was another staple in turning into Serenity what it is today. He had all the odds stacked against him right from the minute he entered this world. Being born in a kill pen usually would be a death sentence but as fate would have it, Lori happened to be there that day. At an hour old he left his mother and went up to Lori and the rest is history. Lori brough...t him and his mother home and never looked back; they’ve been together ever since. A spectacular 20 years filled with so many moments that cannot be described with words. He gave Lori the courage to share her love and passion for horses with all of us, and we are so grateful to him for that. We all share so many memories of Merlinfrom being a great and trustworthy lesson horse who gave so many of us confidence, to an inquisitive and intelligent escape artist. He could untie any knot that feebly attempted to keep him in one spot. When he teamed up with his partner-in-crime and brother, Mateo, they could even undo our gates. The two of them were inseparable, they such special bond. Merlin was the quieter and more sensible older brother; Mateo was the rebellious younger brother. They balanced each other out perfectly. This is another loss that will be felt by all of the Serenity community and within the herd. Merlin, we are so blessed to have had you in our lives and we all love you so much. Rest In Peace Mer, you deserve it See more

I kept my horse We rode many miles, won many shows, and we spent hundreds of hours side by side. Now you’re old, you’re retired, and you’re my old man. ... I kept my horse when he went lame- every damn time. I kept my horse when I fell off - it wasn’t his fault anyways. I kept my horse when I thought it shouldn’t be this hard- I didn’t know that’s how I would learn. I kept my horse when he told me he couldn’t be ridden anymore - because I know compassion. I kept my horse when I moved away for college and struggled with time- because he’s family. I kept my horse when I was broke- because sometimes times are tough. I kept my horse when he couldn’t jump high and run fast because I could see that he still would try if If I asked but he shouldn’t. I kept my horse when I bought a new one- 3 actually, because he’s irreplaceable. I kept my horse when I wished I had room for one that was sound- because I owe it to him. I kept my horse when he was costing me more money to feed then any of my riding horses, because money isn’t everything. When his legs had enough- and all he could bare to carry was his own weight, I still kept my horse. When his career as a riding horse was over- I knew I had to keep my horse. No one owes this horse a retirement except for me, and shame on anyone who selfishly convinces themselves otherwise. I owe him so much more for what he has done for me, but I plan to try and make it up to him when he has nothing more to offer me. Because that’s how it should be be

I am a lesson horse. I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson ho...rse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse. I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse. I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse. I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse. At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse. At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse. I am a lesson horse. *stolen from a friend *

It comes with great sadness that I must write this today. Last night we had to say goodbye to our wonderful Chip. Anyone whose ever ridden with us; whether it was just one summer camp years ago or have been taking lessons every week, knew and loved Chip. He was truly a one in a million horse, irreplaceable, and worth his weight in gold. Good and honest. A friend we could all rely on. He’s touched so many lives from so many walks of life. He instilled the love for horses and... riding into so many young minds, that was his gift to all of us. He always knew exactly what his rider needed from a kid who was paralyzed with fear, he made sure to take every single step with care. To a kid who wanted to get up go; he definitely could do that for them as well! He was a pillar in helping Serenity becoming what it is today. We couldn’t have asked for a better partner these last two decades. His last few years of retirement he enjoyed the good life of just being spoiled by everyone who loved him and being an old man with his old buddies. Today we are honouring and thanking Chip by sharing all the memories so many of us had the pleasure of sharing with him. We love you, Chip. Thank you for everything, rest easy ol’ boy. See more
