Lest we forget.
Plastic is off the hoop house, the garden is now ready for the snow. I’m seriously happy about the warm weather we’ve been having, it’s so nice to have a few warm days to keep some of the green in a few beds. The parsley has been so hardy this year and I’m definitely going to grow that again it’s the big green on the left. We’re planning on pulling up the rest of the lettuce in the hoop house on the right this weekend.
A big thank you to all our amazing customers this year, thank you for supporting local home grown farmed veggies. We have reached the end of season for our fresh veggies from the field. Fresh food that will continue all year round are our tasty microgreens and lovely quail eggs!
Green cherry tomatoes! We’re cleaning out the last of the tomatoes from the hoop house. What are some of you favourite green tomato recipes? Let us know in the comments!
We have more produce boxes available!!! The garden may be almost done but there is still lots of bounty! Rainbow Swiss Chard... Potatoes Pumpkins Green Onions Butternut Squash Tomatoes Lettuce mix Baby Carrots We have microgreens all year round!!!
Our garlic game is on! We’re planting a lot more then last year! Garlic for days!
Well it’s the end of the tomatoes in the hoop house. The frost the other day took out the tops of the plants and we had to take them all in. Time to can up these bad boys and make some tasty food things for winter!
Honey Crystallization Did you know that honey doesn’t ever go bad? However honey can get some crystals with time. To remove crystals from your honey place the jar in a bowl of warm water and it will melt back to a liquid again. With raw honey you want to just use warm water as to preserve the beneficial additives. ... Enjoy your honey, it is a shelf stable food for lifetimes!
Happy Thanksgiving! Wishing everyone a safe, fun, long weekend!
The garden is getting ready for fall. With this time of year comes lots to do, we have been busy harvesting, processing, and switching beds to the fall crops, and watching the squash and pumpkins for ripeness. Waiting for just before the first frost to pick. Some might be ready sooner! The bees are also on our minds as we head into fall. This month is honey harvest! So many wonderful things to look forward to in the coming weeks.
One gorgeous purple eggplant!
Interesting yes?
Have you seen me? This looks like a scary bug but on the contrary! Its a harmless paper wasp. This little guy is a wonderful addition to the garden who helps pollenate all sorts of crops. This one was in the hoop house helping us out with pollination of cucumbers and tomatoes. Not everything with a stinger is harmful. Just give them space and let nature do its thing.

Picking all the beans and drying them for next years planting. My favourite the scarlet runner bean. Pinks and purples and black speckled, how amazing is this bean!

One of our delicious boxes from this past Saturday! Can you say yum!
The herbs are so lush right now. Starting to process them to store over winter.
The boys have been kicked out. What you see here is a bunch of male honey bees (called drones), they have been forced out of the hive and not allowed back inside by the female worker bees. The drones have huddled up together outside on the hive to keep warm. As the temperature drops and fall begins, all drones will be kicked out of the hives. Their job is finished and the female worker bees want to save the honey they have worked so hard to attain for the winter. Male bees eat a lot of honey, and only purpose is to mate, and when their job is complete the boys have to go. Poor fellas.
Our lovely fennel bolted and bloomed these yummy tasting flowers. The bees are going crazy for them so we left it for them as a late season snack.
One of the cross pollination squash we have, this is a mix between a pumpkin and a spaghetti squash! I cant wait to see whats inside and taste this monster. What is cross pollination? Cross pollination is when one plant pollinates a plant of another variety. The two plants genetic material combines and the resulting seeds from that pollination will have characteristics of both varieties and is a new variety.... Hoop house guest this fine day!
We have an awesome produce box up for grabs this weekend 30$ box with a 40$ value! Are you hungry for farm freshness? The tastes of summer? Message us to get you box today!
Hoop house tomatoes!!! The red is so bright!
This impressive bean is the beautiful scarlet runner! How can you not be in love with these plants, they attract hummingbirds, bees, and all kinds of pollinators, they are also delicious. What we have in store for these beans is to let them dry on the vine and store them. They are similar to the kidney bean you would be more familiar with. Next year were going to plant so much more.
One thing I keep thinking about is that we had a terrible start to our cucumbers, they all died or were attacked by bugs, we had to buy new starts late in the season, and now they are our most productive plants. We have had harvest after harvest. Just goes to show you, dont give up, given time and some attention you can have the very best of harvests.
Just look at this beauty!!! Yup this is a sunflower!
What a beautiful day in the garden!
We still have an over abundance of cucumbers! Need to make some pickles this summer? $1 a piece cucumbers!
We have an abundance of cucumber!!! Todays special: I have a full crate of cucumbers selling now at $1.00 a piece! Come get them while they last! Message for pick up!!! Thanks for being my model Patricia McIntyre
Zinnia! Had to share this beauty. Zinnia is a symbol of endurance because it blooms from mid-summer all the way until frost. It also symbolizes lasting friendship, goodness and remembrance.
Radish microgreens! One of our favourites in omelettes! Great add in to a sandwich or salad at lunch, and for supper you can add it to your stew, soups, roasted chicken or stir fry for a bit of a flavour kick! You can also just snack away on them too, we wont stop you!
Our little amaranth plants, we love the beautiful colours of these plants. Amaranth is a nutritious, gluten-free grain that provides plenty of fiber, protein and micronutrients. It has also been associated with a number of health benefits, including reduced inflammation.
Bee fight! These two are from separate hives and likely were having a dispute but notice they dont sting each other. Just a little fight, both tired out quickly and then we put each one on a different flower and they were good.
We harvested the garlic last night, look at all these bulbs!
A sea of greens! Microgreens!
We want to know whats your favourite veggie?! Let us know in the comments what your favourite veggie is!
Summer squash is here and its gorgeous! Super simple and delicious add in to any meal!
Check out this frame of perfect honey!
Bee waggle dance! A few little bees are communicating where to find some awesome pollen to the rest of the hive. Check it out!
We absolutely love sorrel! Fresh with a citrus sour bite, pared wonderfully with fish and chicken. A perfect pick me up when added to salad or even smoothies! Yummy!
Out in the hoop house the other day and this lovely creature was trapped inside, I helped it out and caught this amazing close up. Dragonflies in the garden are harmless to people and do not sting or bite. They are elegant insects that keep the fly and mosquito population in check. They consume their own body weight in bugs each half-hour, so having a few of these beautiful winged creatures around is a great help to outdoor enthusiasts.
