Sew Dramatic

Just to let you know.....I've been having some problems with my hands, so I'm not doing much sewing right now. Hope to be able to get the arthritis under control so I can start back soon. All the pieces are cut out for the dress that goes over the costume I was making, but I haven't been sewing since before Christmas.

Thank you to all the wonderful people who sent comments about the work I've been doing lately. Yesterday, I cut out all the pieces for the dress that will go on top of all this underwear. I now understand why young women used to need help to get dressed for a party or just an outing!! I love the costumes, but I'm sure glad we ladies don't have to wear all that underwear!!

Just finished the slip to go over the hoop skirt.

Here are a few pictures of what parts of the 1860's costume on which I am currently working.

I finished the hoop skirt to go with my Period Costume, but it doesn't hang right. The hoops keep curling in, so when I researched it I found out that the new boning you can sew on, is no good for this type of project. I have to sew on twill tape to make "ribbons" to slide the bones into. So, right now I am picking all the stitching out of 11 hoops. I have nine done as of today, but I still have the bottom two to remove. Well, I guess this is how we all learn. I'm determined to make the costume true to the period!

I'm currently working on a "Period Costume" of Scarlet O'Hara. I'm quite amazed at how much underwear a girl had to wear under the lavish gowns they wore. No wonder they needed assistance to get dressed!

I have returned to making period costumes. I'm making a complete outfit for Scarlet O'Hara (Gone with the Wind). From underwear on out to one of her beautiful gowns.
