I'm so excited to have my very first class since I closed due to Covid 19 over two months ago! At the moment I am just getting my adult students in that had to stop mid session. Then I will get the people in that registered but didn't get to take their class! I'm so grateful that everyone has been so patient, waiting to come back and get their SEW ON!

I miss my kids! Sad not to be teaching right now!

Who would think that making a simple bag could be so much fun? This is the very first day of my March Level 1 class! AND they are going home with their bag! This week they buy the fabric to make their project. ... I often do virtual shopping with my students as the fabric store can be quite overwhelming! Machine appliqué is a tricky skill to learn, but she aced it! This pillow kit from @classythreadskits is sewn in layers. First the blue splash and the drops are sewn in place. Then the letters are all sewn on top. This is appliqué! ... We use a bit of glue to hold the letters on and then sew, turning all sorts of crazy corners while trying to stitch close to the edge. Once all the appliqué is done, then the pillow front and back are sewn together and stuffed. A bit of hand sewing finishes off the opening. AND VOILA!! See more

Oooh! First purchase! These are bulk zippers with lots of tabs! You make little fun little bags with only one side of the zipper and then you thread the pull back on! Super easy and the kids will LOVE making them!

Sometimes you just have to get your silly on! We throw the big scraps in a bin and the kids can use them for free time! They love to have free time in between projects to just be creative! ... And if that involves creating a no sew head covering, then so be it! See more

Interesting read. This is very true in Vancouver too. So many fabric stores gone! Do you remember Sabas, Golds, and the high end downtown stores Elle and Etcetera and Farquhar Woolens on South Granville? Even the lower end Fannys fabrics is gone. Every department store had a fabric department when I was growing up. But, sewing is making a resurgence which is awesome. Sewing is a great life skill and you can do so much with it!

Sewing 911. Sometimes a mistake is made and we end up with a hole, right in the middle of a garment! (I forgot to take a picture so I drew it in) we fused interfacing to the wrong side over the hole, then cut carefully around the ice cream cone, then placed it at a jaunty angle and zigzagged it in place!
