If you are free, head on down to the Vancouver Maritime Museum for the Underwater Archaeological Society of British Columbia's Speaker Series. This month's talk will be given by Josh Chernov, ROV pilot, on his work with the USS Independence, a vessel used for atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. It is free and open to all so bring a friend to keep you company on your journey to Kitsilano. Check the comments for more info and directions. Enjoy your night! -Jackie

Ahoy Sailors! The following is the minutes from our meeting on September, 22, 2016. Sorry that it took longer than rowing across the Pacific Ocean to post this. The UAC:... The UAC is a student initiative aimed towards building a social network of local divers, archaeologists, and coastal/marine environmentalists. The club is currently headed by Chantel Smeysters, but we are looking for people interested in becoming an executive member for the current and upcoming semesters. Shoot us an e-mail if you’re interested in a position, especially if you’re interested in taking on the role of president for next semester! You can email me ([email protected]) or Captain Chantel ([email protected]) if you are interested in a position. Upcoming Events: Inuit Tales of Terror: Franklin’s Missing Ship by David Woodman Wednesday, September, 28th, 2016 from 7:30-9pm at the Vancouver Maritime Museum (1905 Ogden Ave, Vancouver, BC V6J 1A3). The UASBC (Underwater Archaeology Society of British Columbia) has invited us to their speaker series. David Woodman will be talking about how Inuit traditional knowledge might be the key to solving the mystery of Franklin’s lost expedition. It sounds like it’s going to be a great lecture! For those not familiar with the Franklin Expedition, click the link below to find out what it’s about: http://www.canadiangeographic.ca/topic/franklin-expedition For more information on the Vancouver Maritime Museum, click the link below: http://www.vancouvermaritimemuseum.com/ Movie Night Friday, October 14th, 2016 from 5-7pm. We’ll be watching Jaws for a Halloween themed-movie night. We’ll be bringing (free!) food and drinks, so it should be a fun night! Feel free to bring a friend or two. November: Although the dates aren’t pegged down yet, we are looking to schedule both diving courses and a club dive during this month. If you are interested in getting your diving certificate or are interested in going on a group dive, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can sort things out for everyone. Also, those interested in the group dive, we’re planning on going on a Saturday morning. So if you know you won’t be available during a Saturday in November, let us know and we’ll try our best to accommodate. December: We’re also planning a pub night during this time as a way to blow off some steam before finals. The final details have not been sorted out yet, but there will be free beer! Hope to hear from you guys soon!
