MEET OUR EXECS Catherine Qi (she/her) 3rd year HRM concentration VP of HR... Oversee all HR affairs Build and maintain good relationships between current executives Continuously trying to improve HR operations and reinforcing a inclusive, welcoming club culture Joined since Spring 2019 I have met so many wonderful people through K.Storm and became friends with a lot of them. Being on the team, I have gained hands-on experience of HR functions and I just hope that every executive and member can feel welcomed. My favorite thing on the team is to just see everyone smiling and enjoying every event whether it’s internal or external. Brainstorm events ideas and coordinate events logistics, help with graphic design and content writing for Marketing, assist in hiring process with HR, reach out to sponsors for External Relations, check in with our secretary to keep our meetings and bookings organized, stay updated with our treasurer to keep our finances organized Joined since Fall 2018 I have learned lots of new skills that have even helped me land my current co-op job working @sfupsychology ! I have also worked as an Events Coordinator and as VP of Events, where I gained lots of events planning and leadership skills. But what I value the most are the connections that I have made and helped create by being a K.Storm exec, because I enjoy creating a welcoming space for SFU students interested in Korean culture to connect with each other, as that is what K.Storm was for me when I first transferred here . I started out as a Marketing Coordinator and took on the VP role after 10 months in the team, so I got a chance to go through a variety of tasks related to my field of study. What motivates me the most is the friendly and positive work dynamic of K.Storm. Everybody is super supportive and gives awesome feedback to help you grow. Also, this is a safe space for me to express my crazy fangirl spirit. I blend right in with the team and being able to work with people of similar mindset and interests is the absolute best! Book meeting/event rooms (now I host zoom meetings #zoomuniversity) Organize and record executive meeting minutes Email/message people to make sure things run smoothly (events booking wise) and people are where they’re supposed to be lol Joined since Fall 2019 (shout-out to anyone who has been to our in-person events) K.Storm is a very welcoming group (especially the executive team!) and I was able to hone my skills as secretary as well as make friends The best part of being K.Storm would probably be the events we host where I can share my interests as well as eat awesome K-food (back in the BEFORE times T.T) Also, on my first day with K.Storm we went out to eat bingsu (milk shaved ice) and didn't tell them I was lactose intolerant until after we finished eating AND also failed to mention it was also my birthday which resulted in so tldr: it’s been a super wild and fun time since the very beginning of my time at K.Storm Listening to Baekhyun and D.O. (missing kyungsoo hours bc he’s in the army) Favourite K-dramas? Where to start? Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Descendants of the Sun (c l a s s i c ), 100 Days my Prince (again w the missing kyungsoo hours) I really rEaLLy really REALLY like noodles. I would have it for every meal for the rest of my life if I could. There’s just so many different types of noods out there >< Ysanne Yong (she/her) 3rd Year Communications and Sociology Vice President of Events Leading the Events team with organizing and overseeing all events throughout the year! Joined since Summer 2020 What I really noticed when I entered the team was how incredibly welcoming everyone was! What we strive for is to provide a safe space for those interested in K-Culture to connect with one another and create lasting friendships. I can confidently say that the team at K.Storm is one that will always be open and welcoming to everyone. My ult group is Stray Kids! They are what got me into k-pop and I have been following them since their pre-debut survival show! So I have them to thank for the unhealthy amount of time I spend watching God’s Menu fancams Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo is my favourite k-drama as of right now! There have been so many that I have not watched yet so I let me know if you have any recommendations I love spicy food! I cannot live without chilies and spice in my life. A common thing my family will do is chop up some fresh Thai chilies, put them in light soy sauce and have that as a side dipping sauce when we eat dinner.
