Happy Sunday SGS! Forgot to share these masterpieces from Second Quarter Art students. Half-and-half portraits... in progress! Students were challenged to complete the other side of a famous face... not such an easy task!
Today is a sad day for SGS! It is Mrs Worthington’s last day of work as an educator. She is SUCH a huge part of the fabric of this school that it will be strange to not see her smiling face in the Band room each and every day. Dianne is an educator through and through; but she is also a musician, an athlete, a master coach and a mentor. We could go on and on..... We are going to plan and celebrate her retirement later in the year, but for now, we just wanted to acknowledge her leaving - we miss you already Mrs Worthington! Love the students and staff at SGS!
Today was a lot of fun as we all wore our favourite band t shirts. ( we also learned a lot about everyone’s choice in music ) We said goodbye to some amazing staff - and as we switch quarters, welcoming others back! Thank you Mr MacKay, Mrs Lister and Mrs Faulkner - we so appreciate your love for kids especially during these strange times! It isn’t goodbye, it is see you again!) and Happy Birthday Nate! Sleep in tomorrow SGS- see you Monday!
Minute to Win it fun games in Mrs Shields class!
Students used the Far Side cartoon What is outside Gladys’ window? as their inspiration for this assignment! They needed to imagine what was peeking through the window... using whatever materials they had at home!! These are a variety of 7-9 Art students! So well done!! Thank you Mrs Daly!
Home based art classes!! Found Colour Wheels made by grade 7s... we were studying colour theory and the kids had to make a colour wheel using items they found around their homes!!
Tomorrow is WEAR YOUR FAVOURITE BAND TSHIRT DAY! Wild Hair is optional!
Art classes are back - 3D Word Art... done by grade 7. We were looking at typography. So creative!!
Families -- a couple important points to keep in mind over the holidays: 1. If your child is diagnosed with COVID-19 over Christmas break & was at school while ...infectious (i.e. the last week of classes) pls email the principal as soon as possible so we can contact trace. 2. If contact tracing is required over Christmas break, principals will be contacting affected families via email. Please make sure you're checking your email regularly over the break. Thanks everyone! We appreciate everyone working with us to keep our community safe.
Walking through SGS today, it is hard to believe what has changed in a year. ( who knew what a MEET or a BREAKOUT room was 365 days ago???) At this time of year, normally the energy would be building for Christmas holidays; today the halls were silent and empty. However, the classrooms were a buzz with a million things: cooking lessons and kitchen safety, explaining to Gr 9’s how to parallel park on a hill, discussion of health care in Canada, singing crazy songs, show and tell, scavenger hunts and much much more. We thank all of our families for the positive messages, as we are trying!! We have 9.5 days left until the holidays and we will do our best to keep the kids engaged right to the end! We are happy to have all our staff back on Monday AND we look forward to have the kids back in January! Stay safe everyone!
Important information for our families!
Thank you SGS! We brought in over 1000 items for the St Albert Food bank! A big thanks to the Lead 9 kids for organizing!! ( next up is our annual cereal drive ).
Here is Yee, one of our wonderful custodians, and her yummy cinnamon bun- sent to us from our Trustees. They were all gone before noon! Thank you/ Merci! We will be ready for Quarter 2 on Thursday; welcome to the students coming back, and goodbye (hope to see you soon) to those who are leaving. ). WHAT A YEAR!
A big thank you to Kale and Wyatt for MC’ing our Remembrance Day ceremony this morning. Lest we Forget
A friendly reminder that we are collecting coin/cash donations for the Legion. On Thursday, all our students will be given a poppy. If you are able, please donate! Thank you!
Friendly reminder .....
