Testing the spike on a railroad spike war hammer. The twisted spike looks cool but makes it tricky to pull it out.

Christmas is just around the corner. cant get anymore custom work done before, but, we do have some stock, knives, swords and hawks. Gift certificates are available so that special someone can choose their own style and materials. We also do certificate for lessons. What is all involved in the lessons? The 2 day class.... Day one, we start on an antique coal forge, covering coal, where to get it, the different hammers, hammer control and techniques. We forge the knife to shape, forge bevels, learn about moving the steel, the different types of steel, blade design, and some basic grinding. Day 2 we switch to the propane forge, covering the advantages and disadvantages of both types of forge. We heat the oil and each student heat treats their own blade, then on to tempering, after that it handle fitting, and we go over the various handle materials and advantages and sources. Then is cleaning up the blades, fitting handles, more clean up and sharpening. Each student goes home with a knife they made from scratch. That they built themselves. gift certificates are available for lessons, give the gift of knowledge and steel! See more
love it when a previous customer stops in to pick up more sharp pointy things! and he brings his original purchase from 3-4 years ago to show use how it held up. Blade had the expected wear from use, but the handle was mint!! Super glue finish holds up well!

Earlier i showed how a fuller increases the flex of a blade. Today i am showing how a hollow ground blade also allows more flex. 1st pic shows the flex of a bar of 5160 1/4" x 1" x30" with a 1 lb weight at the tip second pic is the same bar with a distal taper Third pic is the same bar with hollow ground bevels.... FULLERS AND HOLLOW GROUND BEVELS DO NOT ADD STRENGTH, THEY DO NOT ADD STIFFNESS See more
Just finished a scabbard for a dussack. Cowhide dyed black, with a gorgeous python inlay, hand stitched with silver thread

In light of current antics in the overall sword community i wish to clarify a few things. 1. We do not condone or support discrimination of any type. Period. 2. We do not get involved in inter-club disputes or disagreements....period.... 3. Our passion is swords and knives and all of our customers share that passion to some extent.
what was supposed to be a quick stress relief project turned into a stress inducing project but its done. 1075 blade, elk antler handle, The Yakutian knife (Yakut: саха быаа, Russian: якутский нож), sometimes called the Yakut knife, is traditional knife of Yakuts (an ethnic group from the Sakha Republic (or Yakutia), region of Siberia), used for working with wood, hides, skins, fish and meat or for combat. The knife has been used in Yakutia for hundreds of years without ...significant changes in its design.[1] Typical Yakutian knives have a blade length of 47 inches (1018 cm), and 11 12 inches (2.53.8 cm) wide. An unusual feature of this knife is that the blade is asymmetrical; one side of the blade has a fuller, that is a groove in it and a chisel grind, while the other side has no groove and is basically a convex edge (meaning it rounds down to the edge, rather than having a straight bevel)
I have seen people say that a fuller lightens the blade while maintaining the stiffness. Even a shallow fuller will increase the flex. 2 pics one before fuller and one after.
Wip, 1st pic is current projects the rest are waiting patiently
is there any interest in my hosting a micro show/open house so you can check out the shop and the stock i have on hand? comment below if your interested
