The Silkies have fluffed up their nests. I also caught one of them in action rolling her eggs. They do this twice a day and this is what an incubator imitates as well.

She decided to discard 3 eggs. I did read that they do that sometimes if there's too many eggs. I put some some hay in with her for her to pick at and add to her nest and as of this morning she had rearranged her nest and added the the hay to her nest. I'm not sure if the eggs are still good or not. We'll just have to wait and see. :)

Silkies are great for hatching peacock eggs. Yes, we have peacocks. They are not good mothers and don't like to sit on their eggs. I could incubate them and just might do that with more eggs that I collect. This is my first time trying this so I'm not sure what the outcome is going to be. My father in law was a pro at this. I've done some reasearch and weighed the pros and cons. I decided not to move them to a separate pen and then disrupt their nests. This way they're still ...with the other Silkies. I wanted make sure that they could see each other as well and when the chicks are born they can see each other so they can be integrated. They other birds were laying their eggs beside the broody hens and adding to the batch of eggs they were sitting on so we had to move fast to separate them so it's not the prettiest set up. You seriously would have to have been there to believe it and I saw it for myself! So, here's how it goes...Miss Brown Silkie in the corner has just gone broodie. The little one we call Golf Ball was squawking and went over to her, put her wing around her and popped out an egg. I saw it! Golf Ball takes off. The Black Silkie stole it and sat on it just for a moment but got distracted. Miss Brownie leaned over and tucked it under her. Blackie came back and sat down beside Miss... Brownie. Then Golf Ball comes over looking furiously for her egg. She knows one of them has but they won't give it up. She actually nestled in and sat there as if to say I'm going to help hatch this egg whether you like this or not! Too funny. (With the sound on you'll hear bells in the background. We hang bells in with the chickens and they love playing with them. There's also CD's and pie plates which they like banging together. Can't forget mirrors that they look at themselves in too.) She insists on sitting on me whenever I'm in the chicken coop. I cleaned out the chicken coop today and she made sure she pecked me over. She was fascinated with the poppers on my coat.
