The picture is from yesterday afternoon at Timber Ridge. I have seen at least three photos of boats sinking this summer and heard about a couple more. It happens more often than you think - don't let this happen to you! There is a something to be learned and an opportunity to improve your boating expertise. Lake Windermere is not that big, but is still subject to very strong storms with big waves. You need to be prepared. Regularly observe the sky and the water to the north. ...Look for dark clouds and a wind line approaching, this means a storm is coming. Get off the lake immediately when you see the wind line. Often it is more dangerous to enter a marina in severe weather than to stay on the lake. Shadybrook has the island which offers excellent shelter to ride out the storm. The entire Invermere shoreline and Baltac Bay are also good places to ride out a storm. Every boat should have an anchor, if your boat breaks down in the wind - use it. Every boat should also have swim goggles and a knife. This is for cutting your tow rope off the prop. Everyone runs over a rope once in awhile, usually when it is windy. Happy Boating. Happy Fathers Day to all the Shady Dads! We would like to give a special thanks to Christine's dad Jack who is invaluable with help in many things around Shadybrook. He can fix or build pretty much anything and his expertise is greatly appreciated. Picture is Jack removing fish hooks off the power lines at the boat launch last week. This job to finally got done when Jack lost his own fishing hook on the line. Mike and Christine
