Under the Liberals, 2021 is not off to a good start - This Liberal government hasn't even released a budget in what seems like forever! They have yet to show Canadians a clear concrete plan for an economic recovery. #canpoli #cdnpoli #economy #jobs

This is an interesting case to watch. Illegal guns in the hands of gangs and criminals - smuggled in from the U.S - are tied to a large proportion of the shootings causing death in Canadian cities. Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Robert DiDanieli heads the Toronto police firearms enforcement unit - he says this legal avenue is one way they are, reducing firearms trafficking, thereby reducing the number of guns on the street. ... Two weeks ago, Conservatives proposed a bill that would help curb the smuggling and illegal sale of guns in Canada - but the Liberals shot it down. Instead they are sticking to their guns and going ahead with their sweeping confiscation program that targets law abiding firearms owners and retailers - but it will do nothing to get guns out of the hands of gangs and criminals. #firearms #gungrab #publicsafety #canpoli https://www.thestar.com//is-this-19-year-olds-death-a-gun-

There's a cold snap hitting many regions across Canada (it's -40C with wind chill in Two Hills right now.) So please stay safe and warm - and thank Canadian energy workers!

Canada lost 213,000 jobs in January and the unemployment rate increased to 9.4% - among the highest in the G7 Canadian oil and gas is Canada's biggest export, the largest private investor in the Canadian economy, and represents more than half a million jobs. It's a no brainer that a thriving Canadian oil and gas sector is crucial to Canada's economic recovery.... But where's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and these Liberals when it comes to standing up for the thousands of jobs tied to Keystone XL or Enbridge Line 5? Nowhere. #canpoli #cdnpoli #energy #naturalresources #economy

Royal Canadian Legion Br 30 Remembrance Day Ceremony 2020

Shannon Stubbs 25.10.2020

It's Victims and Survivors of Crime Week. This week, and every week, I'm thinking of everyone impacted by crime, whose lives are often changed forever - and about the immense courage and different struggles of survivors, victims' loved ones and advocates. The dedication of supportive family members, friends, neighbours, victims' services providers and volunteers, and law enforcement and justice professionals for victims and survivors of crime is so important.... My Conservative colleagues and I will always fight for victims and survivors of crime, and advocate for victims' rights. There is still much work to be done. #VictimsWeek #canpoli #cdnpoli #PublicSafety

This Remembrance Day marks the 75th year since the liberation of the Netherlands and the end of WWII in Europe, and the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War where more than 26,000 Canadians served and 516 died. This Remembrance Day will be unlike any Canadians have experienced before it is the first time in a century there will not be traditional parades of Remembrance. This year Canadians are remembering Veterans and those serving - in different ways.... Each year dozens of young students send their pictures to my office to help mark Remembrance Day. Each time my staff and I walk past these colourful walls it is a reminder of the sacrifices made for Canada - and a symbol of the gratitude Canadians have, several generations later. Even without ceremonies taking place at cenotaphs across Canada with soldiers assembled in formal dress, bagpipes , the reciting of John McRae’s ‘In Flanders Fields’, and the solemn sound of the bugle playing the ‘last post’ Canadians are marking Remembrance Day with the same eternal spirit represented in traditional ceremonies. The everlasting memory, honour, and gratitude for the service and great sacrifices the heroes of yesterday and today have made and continue to make for Canada and our way of life will be present in whatever Canadians choose to do to mark this important day. These heroes are why Canadians can live securely and peacefully, with the rights, freedoms, rule of law, and democracy that are the foundations of Canadian society. Whether you are marking Remembrance Day and Veteran's Week through social media, video conferences, donating to the local legion, observing a moment of silence, or taking the time to personally thank a veteran - Millions of Canadians are joining with you in honouring and remembering the sacrifices made and together, Canadians ensure they will never be forgotten on this or any other Remembrance Day. As Laurence Binyon says in his poem, ‘For the Fallen’, "At the going down of the sun ... we will remember them. Lest We Forget. #CanadaRemembers

Wow! What a special tribute.

The Liberal government has not taken the threats from the Chinese government to Canada seriously. Canadians are being arbitrarily detained in China. Officials from the Communist Party of China and their government harass, bully and intimidate Canadian citizens here on Canadian soil and around the world. ... Canadian citizens living abroad, especially in Hong Kong, are facing an erosion of civil liberties and increasing control and threats from China. When the world needed information and access from the Chinese government at the start of the pandemic in order to protect our own citizens, China's regime presented obfuscation and delays. Every day, the Canadian government, businesses and civilian networks face intellectual property theft and data breaches by China. Despite all the evidence and warnings, and months, even years, that have passed, the Liberal government has still not made a decision to ban Huawei from involvement in Canada's 5G infrastructure. It is long past time for Canada to take the threat from the Chinese government seriously and for the Canadian government to take action to protect our own citizens and our national interest. Enough is enough. #canpoli #cdnpoli #publicsafety #nationalsecurity https://www.cbc.ca//politics/otoole-china-greatest-threat-

This campaign of influence and intimidation of Canadians is real. China is expanding its economic imperialism through various means - this is one of them. It's why Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole and Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada are pushing the Liberals to protect Canadian interests and solidify relationships with free and democratic allies. ... Here is a motion I recently moved successfully in the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU) ,to put this on the priorities of this committee. The motion says that the committee will investigate "the influence of hostile foreign entities in Canada and the abuse of Canadians by foreign national regimes in Canada and abroad; that the committee examine cases and evidence of hostile and distressed acquisition of Canadian assets by state owned enterprises, corrupt foreign regimes or organized crime organizations; that the committee hear from the RCMP and CSIS on the measures taken to prevent security violations of Canadians, of national and economic interests including theft or acquisition of sensitive technologies, and current measures and potential future actions to prevent state-backed and corporate espionage, intellectual property and trade secret theft; that the committee hold televised meetings to receive and hear evidence; that the committee present its findings and recommendations to the House; and that pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report." #canpoli #cdnpoli #ForeignInfluence #publicsafety www.theglobeandmail.com//article-csis-warns-chinas-operat/

Here is an interesting throwback to 1985 - my grandmother Eileen Stubbs was the first female Mayor of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. So what's the plan for KXL? #canpoli #cdnpoli

Shannon Stubbs 22.08.2020

Banning handguns will have little to no impact on gun crime in Canadian cities. Mainly because: 1- Gangs and criminals don't follow laws. 2- Bans will do little to deter the smuggling of illegal firearms in to Canada that are destined to fall in to the hands of gangs and criminals. 3 - Most gun crime in Canadian cities is related to gangs and criminals. See #1. ... The Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair even agrees. He said about banning handguns, "it would not in my opinion be perhaps the most effective measure in restricting the access that criminals would have to such weapons, because we'd still have a problem with them being smuggled across the border." Despite the Liberal gun grab in May, shootings causing death have increased 13% year over year in the city of Toronto. These Liberals are practicing lazy politics and putting on a show - and what's worse is the Minister is on record acknowledging that his ban will fail to keep Canadians safe. #canpoli #cdnpoli #gungrab #publicsafety https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-federal-governme/

Shootings are up under these Liberals. Toronto shootings causing death are up 13% year over year - and don't forget that these numbers increased despite the pandemic lockdown and implementation of the Liberal gun grab. This just proves the Liberals' approach is failing - gangs and criminals simply don't follow the rules and the Liberals are failing to keep Canadians safe.... #canpoli #cdnpoli #firearms #liberalgungrab #publicsafety

Thank you Lianne Rood MP for coming to Lakeland and seeing the devastation first hand. I look forward to continuing the fight for agriculture in Lakeland and across Canada. To mark the beginning of Veteran's Week my colleague Rob Moore delivered this great speech virtually to the House of Commons. This Veteran's Week also coincides with the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two. This is an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the sacrifice, courage and determination of the many Canadians who served at home and abroad and saw Canada and its western allies through the Second World War. #LestWeForget

Thanks to Michelle Pinon of the Vegreville Advertiser for running this story about the Lakeland Agriculture Tour I did with Lianne Rood MP. "...it’s really unfortunate that the Minister of Agriculture has been invited here by Shannon to come and see the devastation herself. To see that there is a problem here and I’ve called her out on it this week. I’ve said to her, you know you can see the pictures, but boots on the ground, it’s a whole different story than the pictures. ...You need to come here and talk to these people. And we haven’t heard anything from her yet so we’ll keep being the advocates here. #canpoli #cdnpoli #agriculture

Things that happen to us at a young age have a habit of sticking with us. That's what happened to Troy Ruptash when he was competitive figure skater. Born and r...aised in Vegreville, Alberta, Troy had many days where he found it hard to be the only male in the figure skating group, and absorbed far more than his fair share of belittling and bullying. Those incidents shaped Troy's later decisions to leave skating altogether and when he should come out to his family, and later publicly, about his relationship with his life partner Craig. In this episode, you'll hear about Troy's journey as the figure skater who frequented the Glenora and Glencoe in Edmonton and Calgary, to becoming an actor in New York. You'll hear about the dozens of roles he's played on films and shows you have certainly watched, and he discusses encounters with actors like Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jon Hamm and George Clooney. You can see what movies and TV shows Troy has starred in here. But more importantly, Troy has put his heart and soul into a new movie which encompasses much of what you will hear in this podcast. They Who Surround Us is a new movie written and directed by Troy, about a Ukrainian farmer living in Alberta who loses his wife in a tragic accident. Guilt and grief send him into an emotional spiral where mysterious and inexplicable events force him to relive traumatic incidents from his childhood in Ukraine. Next week's episode will feature Spencer Beach. I know some people might have heard Carrie on 96.3 The Breeze talking about that episode, but we made the switch because Troy's movie is going to released at the Edmonton Film Festival. Click here for the trailer: https://youtu.be/iwwmpECXh64 The movie airs October 9th at 6:30pm Mountain Time. Please subscribe to the podcast and leave us a rating and review.
