Do you have an abcess or the beginning of an abcess and you're ignoring it or are trying to treat it yourself? Do you have a bladder infection, UTI, kidney inf...ection or any infection and you're trying to ignore it or you're borrowing antibiotics to treat it? Are you doing this because you feel stigmatized in the health care system or because your substance use disorder won't allow you to sit in emerg for hours? Connect with the Ally Centre and we may be able to help you. We have a health clinic and a street nurse. Infections can quickly get out of control and can cause sepsis (infection in your blood stream) Sepsis can kill you and can do so quickly if not treated. Your pharmacist can also give antibiotics for bladder infections and some other infections that will get you through until you see a doc. PLEASE DON'T LET INFECTIONS GO UNTREATED! See more

Something must be done! A safe supply of opioids is needed for those who can't take methadone or suboxone. These deaths are totally preventable!

So let’s talk then.... about addiction. It usually (not always) goes hand in hand with some form of mental health or trauma. I am a huge supporter of mental he...alth, and I don’t want to take away the importance of what today means, along with the message it puts out to society. If this platform normalized mental health, why can’t we do the same with addiction? Working in a specialized addiction clinic, there is WAY too much stigma surrounding substance use. We, as the treatment team and nursing professionals, experience stigma from our peers in health care. Let me tell you, when you are trying to provide CLIENT CENTRED CARE, and hit walls with in your own environment, it is so disheartening. I could never imagine how clients/other substance users feel about utilizing our health care system. I want to talk about addictions, and help educate anyone about these things that ALSO MATTER!!! Just as much as my depression and your anxiety. So please, let’s talk. Ask a question, make a comment, share this post, because we need society to be aware of what substance use is. It’s not just a choice to use drugs. *Side bar - do not post that it is a choice to use and they can just stop. I will likely just ignore it, and probably snooze you so I do not have to see other ignorant things you post

Every day in the Northend of Sydney, a miracle happens. Loaves and Fishes fulfills its mission of providing a hot meal for anyone who needs it. Loaves and Fish...es has become an integral part of the fabric of the community. Initially seen as short-term endeavor in feeding the hungry, it became apparent that the organization had a more permanent role to play. Life has been challenging for those who need Loaves and Fishes and this year is no exception. Last year we served over 52,268 meals and that is 365 days a year, we never close. Please consider donating to Loaves and Fishes this year as times are getting tougher !! Here are ways you can donate: By mail - PO Box 602, Sydney, NS B1P 6H7 In person - 139 Charlotte St, Sydney, NS E-Transfer - [email protected] (If you e-transfer, please send us a follow-up email with you information for an Income Tax Receipt and the answer to the question) Website - www.loavesandfishescb.com We would like to Thank everyone for their support at this difficult time !!

We beseech the premier, and our provincial government, to recognize that the housing emergency is in fact a key component to the COVID-19 solution, and has far reaching implications beyond the global pandemic. Good public health cannot be achieved until our most vulnerable citizens have safe housing

16354 deaths due to opioid overdose in Canada in the last 4 years. It also shows that 77 per cent of the deaths across Canada involved fentanyl or fentanyl analogues, and 72 per cent involved drugs that were not manufactured by a pharmaceutical company and medically approved for use. WE NEED SAFE SUPPLY.. THIS IS TOTALLY PREVENTABLE!

This past Friday Mayor Cecil Clarke joined Cape Breton Regional Police A/Chief Robert Walsh & The ALLY Centre of Cape Breton Executive Director Christine Port...er at 1 of 10 new sharps disposal kiosks in the CBRM. Through partnership with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Ally Centre of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia Health and the Cape Breton Regional Police Service, 10 new sharps disposal kiosks are being installed across the Municipality as part of an overall harm reduction strategy for a safe and healthy community. These boxes, reduce potential safety risks to people who come in contact with publicly discarded needles and creates more safe disposal options for the people who use needles, whether as a result of substance use or medical conditions, helping to reduce the stigma around substance use in the community.
