Did u know that water heating accounts for 20-25% of total energy consumption in a typical home? Pictured is a high efficiency water heater with a drain recovery system. This system acts as a heat exchanger. The copper pipe is wound around the drain pipe. When the hot shower water flows through the drain pipe, heat is transferred to the copper pipe and is used to preheat the cold water entering the water heater. One of these units can reduce those energy costs by 40-60%.
