FINALLY! Congratulations, President Elect Joe Biden and Vice President Elect Kamala Harris! So happy! So proud! So encouraged! THANK YOU, American voters, for such an overwhelming achievement and an outstanding expression of hope for positive change, not only in the United States, but in the global community.

In these days of reflections, we have so much to be thankful for. For family members from earlier days who began this journey towards freedom to those we lost not so long ago who became our role models. For friends who have now become family. For every new morning, opportunity, memory created. If you know the story behind Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum, then you know it was a "God Moment" and we thank Him everyday for it. We also thank God for all of you...volunteer staff, supporters and community friends. We want to thank you for all you have given back to us and to wish you a very blessed Thanksgiving. Stay safe, stay well. Carolynn and Sylvia

Celebrated the 30th anniversary of The Old Durham Road Black Pioneer Cemetery in Priceville on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Committee President, Naomi Norquay, and members for all their continued efforts. (On a personal note: James Handy is our 4th great-grandfather)

While the museum is closed due to Covid-19, we can still open our minds. Learning can be fun so over the next few weeks, let's see what you know and what you will see when we can start visiting again. Here's the eighth quiz: what is this? HINT: Noah would have found this so handy! Photo: Great Lakes Display

Firstly, hear the credentials and be pleased...former district attorney, former attorney general, progressive prosecutor, defender of human rights, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, civil rights and equal opportunity & pay. Secondly, see the candidate and be proud...young, African-American, of Indian & Jamaican heritage and female. Congratulations, Kamala Harris! Well deserving to be the next Vice President!

Today, we celebrate, as Canadian direct descendants and other cultures of African descent, August 1st as Emancipation Day throughout Canada and around the world. On August 1, 1834, the British Empire issued the Slavery Abolition Act which declared we were free. On January 1, 1863, Abraham Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation which declared we were free. Now, in 2020, the world is declaring that we claim our freedom because Black Lives Really Do Matter. Photo: Middle Passage Display

Can you help us identify these ladies? A friend sent us this photo taken by her mother in the early 1950's at an Easter Parade in Toronto on the east end Boardwalk. If you have any info, we would appreciate hearing from you. Comment below or email [email protected]
