On behalf of the Shelburne Soccer Club Executive, it is with great sadness and disappointment to report that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the House League and Travel 2020 soccer season in Shelburne effective June 22nd, 2020. We have not entered into this decision lightly, and while it was our heartfelt intent to be able to field this beautiful game in some form this year, the Coronavirus Pandemic has cast the final word on the decision, resulting in our move ...to cancellation. For the past three months, the executive have been weighing options on how we would be able to play. We have exhausted all possible options which include, but were not limited to, the following: playing a shortened season once fields were opened; playing additional nights to make up games; extending our season into October to allow for a complete season. All options were discussed, and unfortunately with the field restrictions being extended by the Town of Shelburne to July 20th, physical distancing protocols, as well as the many other restrictions set in place by the Government of Ontario and Public Health boards, this was an indication to us that a season, even a truncated one, would not be able to proceed. We had to make this decision for the safety of the players, coaches, officials, and parents. We will now be working in the next couple of weeks to process refunds. As a non-for profit club, we are offering parents and players credits towards next year to help us cover costs we have incurred this season. Refunds will also be issued to families who choose to wait until next year to solidify a spot for their child. Please ONLY contact an executive member at: [email protected] if you wish to receive a credit: otherwise refunds will be automatically issued within the next couple of weeks. Please be patient with our volunteers during this process. Thank you for your support during this unprecedented experience. While we are saddened at the loss of our 2020 season, the safety and well being of the players, parents, and officials is our paramount concern. Without the ability to ensure this, we have reluctantly cancelled this outdoor season. Look out for news in the coming months as we are planning to offer an early registration date in the fall to kick start next season.
