We know this hasn’t been the year we all hoped for but we hope that you still find time to enjoy this holiday season with loved ones, whether it be those close or those you see over zoom! We also want to take a moment to remember those we have lost this year and we will continue to hope for a better 2021. Good Evening Sheo Members, With the most recent news from our Government today our region will be entering a mandatory 28 day lockdown. This means that our rinks will be closed from Dec 26th until January 22nd 2021 inclusively. With this being said, we will unfortunately have to postpone our initial start date of January 10th 2021. While we hoped for a better outcome our number one priority is keeping our members safe. At this time, we currently do not have a planned return date but we can assure you we will continue to monitor the situation closely and will update once any new information becomes available. We wish you all a safe and Happy Holidays and we are hopeful for a better new year !

It’s been a tough seven months for many and those on the front lines have done an incredible job day in and day out servicing our community. Covid 19 has created a lot of havoc in our communities and while there has been a lot of negative in the media we want to share some positive news! Because even in unpredictable times we can ALWAYS still show kindness. Please join us in sending a big THANK YOU to one of our very own, Nelson Smith !... Many of you know Nelson from around the rink, always lending a hand where needed but what many of us didnt know is that during the pandemic when Nelson hasn’t been at our rink he’s been busy helping the community as he always does! Nelson has made ONE HUNDRED scrub caps for those at the Covid Care Centre as well as Queensway-Carleton Hospital ! INCREDIBLE ! Nelson, from all of us at SHEO.. we extend a sincere thank YOU! We along with our community health care heroes appreciate you Be kind everyone.

COVID 19 UPDATE Good Evening SHEO Members, On October 9th, the Province of Ontario introduced new regulations that apply to Ottawa’s arena ice pads. Ice Pads were to be used only for training and drills, with no scrimmages or competitive play permitted. This included limiting the number of players on the ice, no spectators, no use of the dressing rooms unless for first aid or storage and that all participants had to arrive dressed. They also requested that to limit the ris...k of spreading COVID-19 to areas where case counts are low, people and sporting teams are urged not to travel to other cities or locales for team play or fitness activities. With this being said, the board has met and decided that it is in the best interest for all of our organization that we DELAY the original start date of Nov 1st 2020 until further notice. At this time we feel SHEO must continue to do our part in the community to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We as an organization understand how important Sledge Hockey is to our members and will continue to monitor the situation closely. More updates to follow as they become available. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our own. Ralph Swafford passed suddenly on September 17,2020 with his family nearby. Ralph was a big part of the Sledge hockey community and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our sincerest condolences to the entire Swafford family, from all of us at SHEO. Until we see you again Ralph

UPDATE! * Please share with friends and family * Re: Return to Hockey 2020/2021... The Board of Directors has been meeting regularly and working towards a plan for return to Sledge Hockey for the 2020/2021 season. Our goal is to re-introduce sledge hockey in a safe and organized manner. As an organization we will be following the recommendations set-forth by Hockey of Eastern Ontario, City of Ottawa and Hockey Canada. Ice allocations for September have been cancelled by the city, however we are hoping to start some hockey programming beginning Sunday November 1, 2020. Updates in regards to SHEO’s return to play will be posted on our Facebook page, SHEO website and Newsletter as they become available. For your interest, you can review the Return to Hockey Framework on the HEO website: http://www.hockeyeasternontario.ca/ Should you have questions or concerns about returning to play, we ask that you please reach out to anyone on the Board of Directors or your program coordinator. - Intermediate Coordinator (Tyrone Henry) - Open Coordinator (Michelle Desrochers) - Interim Sledge Development Coordinator (Amanda Harris) In conclusion, with last season coming to an abrupt end, many members have rental equipment in their possession. Should you have equipment that needs to be returned, it can be brought to Jim Durrell Arena on Sunday August 30th between 10:00 and 1:00pm. Staff will be there to collect items.
