ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT . . Hi , my names Mike (@mike_e23 ). I’m a strength/conditioning coach out of Southern Ontario. I’m personally driven by giving it my best for my clients and operating with honesty and integrity. Here’s why I chose Sherriff Academy. .... Why did I hire Sherriff academy? . Skill mastery in weightlifting and bodyweight movements. A progressive program tailored to my individuals goals of building on my physical and cardiovascular capacities. . What barriers has Jesse helped me overcome? Education - Programming the right amount of stimulus that I can recover from while allowing me to progress in the above stated skills. THROWBACK . . Today I started shadowing @communityathletics and it brought up a lot of memories. .... I’ve been at this fitness coaching thing for a decade but I’m good with starting at the bottom and working up within a new community. . . The last time I shadowed a class was 2013. Swipe to see that kid. Good lord. I say this a lot but that kid had no idea what fitness was going to bring to his life. I’m grateful for it all and I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned over the years to a new community as I continue to learn. . . AWARENESS . This is a step that in my novice years of coaching I would always jump over by making an assumption that the athlete I was coaching knew what the skill was. . Before you hop up on the rings to try a muscle up, attempt double unders, or tip yourself upside down against the wall to do a HSPU, it is paramount that you get an idea of exactly what you are trying to perform.... . When does the movement begin and end? What body parts are supposed to move where? Where is your grip? How long should it take? How long should the rope be? How tall should the bar be? Where do my hands go on the ground? Are there best practices? What are the common faults? Am I strong enough to do this?. . Here is a checklist: What are the Points of Performance? What are the movement standards for the sport? What shapes need to be expressed? .
