Holodomor Awareness Week brought our school community together through prayer and art. We recognized the great famine of 1932-33 where millions of Ukrainians p...erished . Grade 5-8 Ukrainian classes led daily prayers and provided the school information about Holodomor. Many classes created art of wheat and paper candles to light up our hallways in remembrance. Писанков гарбузи? Чому н! How about a little pysanka influence on these pumpkins? Grade 6 students explored mixing watercolour crayons with permanent marker! Why not throw in some Halloween vocabulary too!

Today the St. Nicholas school community gathered to celebrate Obzhynky - Blessing of the Harvest with Father Rendy from St. Sophia’s parish. The grade 4C class ...did a tremendous job in helping lead the celebration. Classes watched from their classrooms and then after the celebration was over Father came around and blessed each classroom and the fruit or vegetable snack each child had brought with them. Our students in all three schools participated (virtually) in the Divine Liturgy today! This was a beautiful way for EICS and ECSD to bring our students together in prayer .

We’ve put a fresh coat of paint on the Ukrainian Bilingual Program sign at the front of St. Nicholas school and it’s being hung today! Stop by and take a look. A huge shout out to Katie Starko and Jackie Fedoriuk for painting the sign. Thank you to Gordon Marshall, Peter Rachmistruk and all who helped with this project! We’ll add pictures when it’s up so stay tuned.

On Monday, June 15th, we recognized the achievements of students in Grades 4, 8, and 12 of the Ukrainian Bilingual program with a beautiful drive-thru celebration at St. Sophia's Ukrainian Catholic Parish! Good luck to students as they move on to their new schools and to new chapters of their lives! ... Молодц!

Ukrainian students from St. Theresa Catholic Middle School went to Ukraine today! Snizhana Marianova is a former teacher who now works for Cobblestone Freeway Tours in L'viv , Ukraine. Today she introduced the beautiful city of L'viv through slides , videos and discussion. We also increased our vocabulary - learning words that L'vivyanky use! Це було дуже цкаво!

The bandura players Bandursty Molodtsi from St. Theresa Catholic Middle School played alongside members from the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus to accompany this project based choir ( which several members are from our Ukrainian bilingual school right here in Sherwood Park) What a beautiful concert and amazing opportunity for these children! Special thanks to Professor Andrij Hornjatkevyc for his dedication to the preservation and teaching of the bandura at our school!

A beautiful commemoration for the Holodomor was held at St. Theresa today. Grade 8 students took leadership roles planning and presenting information as well as leading the school community in prayer. Наша школа вшанувала 86-у рчницю пам’ят жертв Голодомору- геноциду в Укран 1932-33 рокв.

Сьогодн в наш школ ми вшанували пам’ять жертв Голодомору в УкранI 1932-33 рокв. Nataliya Nayevko from Alberta Education, along with Consul General of Ukraine O. Danyleiko visited St. Theresa school today . Students were involved in the creation of a Remembrance map of Ukraine, in commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine. Flowers with the words I remember were pinned to a map of Ukraine in honour of the victims . Students led prayers in the chapel and discussed the importance of educating the world about this tragic event .

A beautiful Divine Liturgy @ St.Sophia Ukrainian Catholic parish today! Catholic education Sunday and the children’s Divine Liturgy gave the opportunity for our Ukrainian bilingual program to come together in prayer and celebrate!
