My #fitness journey began as a teenager in the 90’s at my local #recreation centre. From that bore a love of #exercise. It was a long time before I got the confidence to make a career out of #physicalactivity. My education began at #infofit; first obtaining #weighttrainer, followed by #personaltrainer, #olderadulttrainer and #indoorcycling. #Groupfitness was always my first love and now I can finally officially say I’m certified. New Years fitness resolution tip #2. Commit to you resolution with a punch pass or annual membership. You're more likely to get yourself to the gym, recreation centre or yoga studio if you have already paid for it. Plus it's more cost effective. If getting in shape is going to be one of your resolutions this year, here is a tip to help you be successful. 2 years ago I made a New Years resolution to take charge of my health and wellness. Storing my health and wellness necessities in the trunk of my car is one of the ways I've been able to keep this resolution. My gym bag, extra shoes, yoga mat, cycling helmet and even a soccer ball live in my car. This way I am always prepared and there are no excuses!

If you've ever wondered why functional fitness exercises are so important, all you have to do is look at our recent weather. The snow fall yesterday meant a slippery walk to work over ice and snow which sure made me appreciate all the work I do to strengthen my core and improve my balance. Hooray for functional fitness!

Here is a great article on added sugar and ways to reduce sugar in your diet. Tonight I made homemade pumpkin bread and reduced the sugar by half and added a little bit of apple sauce. Best part is, you can't even tell I only used half the sugar the recipe called for. Today I took my workout out of the gym and into the great outdoors for some functional fitness. Spent over an hour chopping kindling for our fireplace. Working my upper body and core as well as testing my hand-eye coordination. #shiftfitnessvancouver
