Recently I've been having lots of fun with my eighteen month old grandson. As a parent and grandparent our influence is incredible. Recently I walked into a large room with my grandson. A miniature railroad display filled the room. The shiny passenger and freight trains were moving around the display. We both watched as the trains came around the bend. "Toot, toot," I said as we watched the trains coming closer and closer to where we were standing. Within seconds, the so...ftest little voice said, "Toot, toot," pause, "toot, toot" as he watched intently. What a joy it is to be part of this learning experience with him. whenever he sees a train of any shape or size, he now says, "Toot, toot" which touches the heart of all who are within hearing range. I ask myself often, what am I modelling and teaching and how would I feel having this behavior modeled back to me? Children copy everything we say and do!
