Reposted from @naturalmobility The Power Traverse is a fast and powerful way to cross under a bar or branch. Both the front and side power traverse work well for a single straight bar, or monkey bar-like set up. The idea here is to keep the elbows bent and use some strength to move as quickly as possible. The legs "pedal" along to help with the overall body movement. This is ideal for emergencies and short bursts, but compared with the swing traverse, this skill takes a lot o...f energy and is not sustainable for very long comparatively. It's best reserved for moments when timing is a priority. #movnat #naturalmovement #monkeybars #parkour #climbing #obstaclecoursetraining

I can't wait for this book...it's about Takamatsu Toshitsugu, the last combat ninja and my grandmaster's master. This man was a prodigy and legend, fighting several duels to the death and inheriting 9 schools of martial arts. Written by a truly great martial artist and researcher, one of the only to both live and academically research the arts of the Shinobi, Dr. Kacem Zoughari. Check out @takamatsutoshitsugu to get your copy!!!... #takamatsutoshitsugu #kacemzoughari #shinobivillage #martialarts #taijutsu #bujinkan #ninja #shinobi #parkour #shinobinojutsu #ninjatraining

Reposted from @naturalmobility A continuation of my Wall Run Up demonstration from last week. I have been working on this wall since my failed attempts and finally nailed it. I find great value in training things that I cannot yet do. It is tempting to only train what you are good at, but taking on such tasks builds perseverance. It's not easy to keep doing something while failing time and time again. It's also important to not just do what you cannot, but also include some c...omplimentary exercises that help build the skill you need. I didn't juts run at this wall over and over again (though I did that a lot) I also practiced on shorter walls, and walls with a less sharp angle. I focused on building the use of my legs instead of relying on the reach too soon. And here I am! #movnat #naturalmovement #parkour #wallrun

Reposted from @naturalmobility The Parkour Kong Vault aka the MovNat Front Vault is a swift way to clear a knee-to-chest height obstacle, especially through a vertically narrow space. Landing on a target is an added complexity. I have practiced this a lot from a static standing position, but here I am practicing the skill in motion. This is a technique I have been refining for a long time and I feel that I will continue to discover new intricacies through my practice. Many of... these discoveries surprisingly relate to many other movements. Exploring is always insightful. Just because you can perform a skill effectively doesn't mean you've mastered it. The concept of mastery is nothing more than self-deception. There is always room for improvement! That said, if you see anything here that can be improved upon or have any idea for fun vaulting drills, I would love to read about them in the comments! A very important #shinobiskill or #shinobinojutsu comes from Alex @naturalmobility ... I still can't reach that bar, but it's a goal of mine right now, so expect to see a video soon with me actually reaching the top with a wall run! Day 66 of my 90 day personal movement challenge was the Wall Run Up natural movement skill.... This is a technique for transferring forward running momentum into upward vertical momentum. The best way to practice this technique is on a slanted wall, gradually changing the angle over time until you can get the feeling of the movement at a 90 degree angle. It's always good to spend some time training at a height that is too high to reach, but also good to work with a shorter wall to focus on driving power through the legs. #movnat #naturalmovement #parkour #parkourtraining #obstaclecoursetraining #wallrun

Reposted from @naturalmobility Day 43 of my 90 day personal movement challenge was the Side Vault as it's known in MovNat aka the Speed Vault as it's known to Parkour heads. This technique is very similar to the Tripod/Safety Vault, the main variation being that your foot never touches the obstacle. Here I am demonstrating the vault without a running start, first with 2 hands then one handed. Afterward I demonstrate the vault in motion over a few obstacles in a row.... Have any experience with this? Can you think of any good tips for progressing to this vault? Any fun variations? #movnat #naturalmovement #movementculture #parkourtraining #parkour #movementplay #parkourlife #vaulting #parkour4life #speedvault #mobilitytraining #workoutroutine

Reposted from @naturalmobility Day 64 of my 90 day personal movement challenge is Side Rolling from standing. This is different from forward rolling in that your arms wrap over the outside of your legs and you are rolling from one shoulder to the other. In the forward roll, the arm sweeps by the inside of the leg and the roll passes from one shoulder to the contralateral hip on the way up. The side roll is good for quick evasion, recovering from an awkward fall and picking so...mething up off the ground while on the move. Can you think of any other creative applications for this skill? #movnat #naturalmovement #ukemitraining #taihenjutsu #parkourtraining #ukemi #parkour #ninjutsu

Shinobi Village Training Challenge! You are awoken from your sleep to find out our clan's sacred training swords have been stolen by the enemy Kurai ninja clan...you must infiltrate, retrieve our clan's swords and along with it, our honour. You must avoid touching the ground, as everyone knows the Kurai have set up an elaborate maze of booby traps. As you escape with the sword, the infuriated enemy pursues relentlessly. Climb the outer wall of their compound, dispensing shuri...ken at the enemy guards to dissuade their pursuit. #ShinobiParkour In this video I'm working on doing a #sidevault with a katana in my belt. Carrying the sword on the left makes the right vault fairly straight forward. The main consideration is to pull the sword out slightly so it doesn't hit the vault. The left vault is a bit trickier (second half of the video). On this side, I've pulled the sword almost all the way out of my belt to avoid it hitting the object being vaulted. I've reasoned that it makes more sense to keep... it in the belt instead of pulling it all the way out because it would be hard to put back in on the run, and would tie up one free hand to carry while running. #shinobivillage #shinobinojutsu #ninjatraining #shinobi #parkour #movnat #naturalmobility #ninja #ninjatraining #martialarts #taijutsu #bujinkan #budo #bugei #bujutsu #classicalmartialarts
