NOISE We are surrounded by noise every second of our day. Traffic outside, dogs barking in the night, the furnace turning on, snoring partners, creaking doors... While we sleep our brains continue to register and process sounds on a basic level. Noise can jostle our sleep causing us to wake more as we shift between stages of sleep. This is especially true of babies 4+ months old who are transitioning to their more mature sleep cycle (that is a nicer way of saying 4 mont...h sleep regression ). Enter my favourite, must have, sleep gadget...The WHITE NOISE machine . Okay, so it is not the magic answer to all of your sleep deprived dreams but, it is a wonderful tool to help encourage better, more restorative sleep. You are looking for the sound that is consistent, static, shhhhhh. Not the ocean waves or lullabies. We swear by the @homedics sound spa in our house because it is cheap and cheerful and travels well. Others include: a regular ole fan, #dohmnoisemachine and #lectrofan. All can be found on amazon or your local baby store. Ps this tip is good for babies and grownups!

It was curriculum night at my children’s school last night. This is my 10 year old son’s self portrait. There are so many reasons I love thishis creativity, his use of colour, and the feelings it invokes when you look at it. It made me pause and think about the start of this year. We had such an amazing summer and getting geared up to go back to school and start routines again has left us all looking slightly like this portrait The one ritual we have all embraced sinc...e returning, has been our bedtime routine. At ages 10, 7, and 3 my kids all have their favourite things to do before bed and it brings a sense of calm and order to the day. All children thrive with consistent, predictable routines, no matter the age. In this season of new beginnings and new starts, if you are struggling with finding your bedtime routine groove after a glorious summer, please reach out. There is nothing that makes me happier than helping another family find sleep! www.shluffsleep.com #shluffsleep #sleep #sleepconsultant #sleephelp
