HOW TO HONOUR SMALL BUSINESSES Ceremonie is a one-woman small business. One is the key word here. This means that I am the creative director, master formulator, headmistress witch, writer, but also the office administrator, shipment packer, custodian, and every other role. The hats keep evolving and the number of hats I wear keeps increasing. I should also mention that while there are business coaches who may preach, just hire/outsource a personal assistant or house... cleaner, these comments while may make rhetorical sense and mean well, they also can come from a place of privilege and can place additional and unnecessary pressures on the solopreneur, or they simply don’t factor the unique specifics of the business. We all know that supporting small businesses helps build the diversity and health of your community, as well as directly affects the business owners’ livelihood. Sometimes, however, when we are patrons of small businesses, we come from the same shopping perspective as we would with a big box brand, and can sometimes forget how to support the small local tiny / small businesses. With the shopping season in full swing, wanted to share a few notes. If you’re a small biz, would also love for you to add to this list below! When people take credit for their successes in such a way where they are not considering and acknowledging a number of factors that may have contributed to their said success outside of their own control, it can be more of a confirmation... bias than the law of attraction. It’s dangerous correlating the wrong things. All that consists to make life or the Universe is vast, complex, and nuanced. To use a principle to explain why you have what you have or why you don't have what you don't have is suggesting that the Great Mystery can be explained in a linear, cause-and-effect way. We have come to assume that successes and failures are "manifested" acts for which an individual is responsible. Likewise, the manifestation principle becomes problematic when we use it as a measure to form opinions or judge others, such as "you must be 'bad' or of 'low self worth' since you have attracted any given shitty situation". Equally dangerous is when we combine the manifestation principle with other spiritual ideas, such as past lives, to avoid our responsibility to confront social injustices. I am not denouncing past life work - patterns can be identified from past/parallel lives that can present healing in this life, but it's important to examine agendas. To blame the undesirable that one is supposedly "manifesting" because of a past life rather than confronting classicism, oppression, and injustices TODAY in this present life, is spiritual bypassing. In short, abusing the manifestation principle is SPIRITUAL RAPE CULTURE. Honouring the Great Mother cultivates the mother within me. As I honour Her, I learn how to honour Her within me. I am learning how to listen to my body. Because when she speaks, it’s Her speaking. I am learning how to listen to the plants. Because when they sing their fragrance, it’s Her intoxicating perfume.... I am learning how to see the unseen. Because it’s the pockets of the Unknown She often occupies and holds dear unseen, doubted, deemed as imaginary She knows what Mystery is, as She is Mystery Herself. I am learning how to rest. Because it is by surrendering that She can step in, mop my messes, fold my laundry, mend my shoes (She sends elves), bakes bread, and brush my hair. She is the Great Mother, after all. And it’s pretty sweet to be Her daughter. I am learning how to feel. Because She is feeling subtle and nuanced, full bodied and loud, She is rapturous volcano and summer breeze. I am learning how to unlearn. Because She makes fools wise, and scoffs at the decorated. I am learning how to sit. Not because I seek discipline, nor pursue a duality based form of practise, but because it is remarkable what can occur while my heart sits. She is always there waiting. I am learning how to Mother. Because this is what she asks us to do. I (We) was (were) told that our lunar blood defiles the temple, and by believing this, I defiled my own, bodily temple. I was told that my menses is dirty, undesirable, painful, and a shameful, monthly disease. I was told it is dreadful, and to approach every cycle with fear or annoyance. It was seen as a liability rather than a power, and because I had already was well practised in disassociation, the sensations were viewed as discomfort, and the solution was either to push ...through the pain or to mask with chemicals that override natural experience. At the time, I didn’t know that irregular, painful, symptomatic cycles were a sign of disconnection with my divine feminine, overwork, and a sense of unworthiness for sweetness. Our body doesn’t lie; she tells us things. I didn’t yet possess the wisdom of linking the lunar phases of New, Waxing, Full, and Waning as parallels of my own cycle. Nor the knowing that each week of my menses corresponds to one of the four seasons of the year. Nor that my activities can be strategically planned in sync with my cycle to maximize my skill set. Nor that the very lining of my uterine wall can reveal my own emotional and intuitive states. So much richness. And yet, I was told to take the Ibuprofen, insert the tampon, and pretend it doesn’t happen. I am so fortunate that some soulful women paved the way. I am so grateful that I started paying attention to what was dismissed as ‘lunacy’ (by the way, this very word is rooted in ‘luna’, the Latin word for Moon) that I also began listening to my internal medicine woman. To dare to step into ‘foolishness’ all those years ago was perhaps the bravest, most healing act I performed. To die to the rules of one’s family of origin, institutionalized religion and greater, patriarchal society to retrieve what I had forsaken was what I needed to begin truly living. And since myth is a projection of the depth wisdom of the psyche, by participating in a ritual, participating in the myth, you are being, as it were, put in accord with that wisdom, which is the wisdom that is inherent within you anyhow. THE UNIVERSAL SPRING EGG "The origin of the Pasch eggs is just as clear. The ancient Druids bore an egg, as the sacred emblem of their order. In the Dionysiaca, or mysteries of Bacchus, as celebrated in Athens, one part of the nocturnal ceremony consisted in the consecration of an egg. The Hindu fables celebrate their mundane egg as of a golden colour. The people of Japan make their sacred egg to have been brazen. In China, at this hour, dyed or painted eggs are used on sa...cred festivals, even as in this country. In ancient times eggs were used in the religious rites of the Egyptians and the Greeks, and were hung up for mystic purposed in their temples. From Egypt these sacred eggs can be distinctly traced to the banks of the Euphrates. The classic poets are full of the fable of the mystic egg of the Babylonians; and thus its tale is told... ‘An egg of wondrous size is said to have fallen from heaven into the river Euphrates. The fishes rolled it to the bank, were the doves having settled upon it, and hatched it, out came Venus, who afterwards was called the Syrian Goddess'that is, Astarte. Hence the egg became one of the symbols of Astarte or Easter (Eostre); and accordingly, in Cyprus, one of the chosen seats of the worship of Venus, or Astarte, the egg of wondrous size was represented on a grand scale."
