We have been working hard trying to get the shop open and stocked, lots of time into set up, cycling etc. Everything was doing good but we had a hard time keeping nutrients in the water and noticed a clear / brown slime forming on all surfaces of racking and rocks. We tried combating it by manual removal and extra filtration, XL UV sterilizer etc. Nothing seemed to work. We traced it back to Alcohol vapors in the air. Unfortunately we have no control over. Due to covid th...e chemical distributer we share a warehouse with has focused on sanitary products such as Alcohol wipes and sanitizers and filled the entire warehouse with wipes. The vapors off the alcohol wipes are making it into the systems and creating a Carbon dosing effect and strange bacterial growth. Its like nothing I've ever seen before, imagine dinos x10 for thickness of slime and reproduction rate. it gets worse by the day and is completing coating everything in the systems. Surprisingly the fish seem un effected and most corals are still going but faded. Due to this issue and the amount of maintenance needed we have decided to shut down all our systems for the time being. Even if the wipes are removed from the warehouse, the systems are now tianted and need a hard reset. That being said all livestock and fish need to be sold. This is heartbreaking as we have put so much time in to this new shop and now have to drain the tanks. For the time being we will be keeping all our equipment and tanks. I also need to sell all my clownfish pairs and breeding system if anyone is looking to start up! We will make another post listing all livestock and pricing in the next few days.
