Dear Canadians, Just like every year before this, the weather is beginning to warm up, and will only get hotter as we get closer to the inevitable and much awaited Canadian summer months. In an effort to prevent the potential of a suffering child or animal, I write to you today with some words of caution that, although obvious to many, still occurs every year in this beautiful country and planet we call home.... If you have a child or animal in your care, and you plan on leaving your home, entering your vehicle, and heading out, please be sure that children and animals are welcomed to the destination of your day's travels. If animals are not welcome to wherever it is you are heading, please leave your dogs (and other animals) at home. This includes grocery shopping. 20 minutes roaming around in an air conditioned shopping center is simply too much for an animal to bear in what is essentially a hot box powered by the sun. If you plan on stopping to fill up for gas before heading to a day care center or babysitter's house, please bring your child with you into the gas station. Please heed this warning, not because it may potentially harm your child due to raised temperatures, but because it takes mere seconds for a thief to rob you of your vehicle and baby. We hear about the stories every year. A child is left in a vehicle, and suffers from life threatening heat-induced injuries. A dog is left in a vehicle, only to be pronounced dead hours later due to the severe heat it was forced to undertake. Although it may not be quite hot enough yet, please share this post with your friends and loved ones so that these warnings are embedded into their mindset for the weeks and months to come. Children and animals rely almost entirely on their parents to survive this crazy thing we call life. If you're not there to protect and care for them, they don't stand a chance. Life is the most precious thing on earth, so please treat it as such. Jody
