Show Up Sac 30.01.2021

We at Show Up, recognize that lack of restrooms is a problem throughout the Sacramento area, we decided to do our part to help. We have purchased a collapsable, portable toilet unit that will be available to anyone who needs it. It is now officially part of our shower program. If you smoke, when/if you are ready to make the choice to quit, you can. You can say no to drugs. You even have the free will to do or not do whatever you want. However, our bodies do not have a choice... about our waste. It is a fact of life that we all have to go. So, if I, as a paying customer, can't even use a public restroom in most stores, where are our 5,000+ unhoused ones supposed to go? Most people don't think about it and when they see a mess left by someone who had to go and had no place to go, they get upset and assume it was a homeless person being gross and unruly. Regardless of what people think, our uhoused patrons don't want to go outside infront of the world any more than you want to them to. So, we decided to not complain about it and expect the city to fix the problem, but to extend our services and add this resolution to our venue. The dignity and acknowledgement we are able to provide for anyone who uses these services is because of your support. As we try to make life easier for our patrons, our costs grow as well. We are funded by your generosity and donations from the public. This program is not funded by the City or County of Sacramento. Thank you all for helping us help our unhoused patrons. We know we can't solve everyone's issues but we also understand that what we are doing IS making a difference. Now, as we wait for more funding for more trailers, we will keep fighting the fight with your support. We want EVERY human out there to know that we see them and we acknowledge that they are Somebody's Someone.

Happy New Year everyone! Well, we made it through that rough ride. From the Pandemic, the fires, lost jobs/businesses and homelessness, its amazing we have done as well as we have. However, when it comes down to it, most of us have someone to lean on when its just too much. Someone who listens, offers advice when asked for it and even someone who may be able to spot you a little cash to help make it to payday. My point, we all need someone at sometime. Thats life people. Our ...homeless are no different. They are just in a time in their story where they need a bit more help than most. You all did such a fantastic job helping our guests during this past year. Now, Show Up is going to take lessons learned, from this past year, and make our program even stronger by reaching out to more areas. Our program is going to Include 3 trailers by the end of this year. These trailers will be showers and toilets. From experience we see the dire need for toilets. As far as our current shower only trailer, we will be bringing a portable bathroom with us.We are going to work with and train our homeless so they have skill to rely on. Give a person a fish...teach a person To fish... If you would like to help us continue to provide these services for our homeless, there are several ways you can contribute. You can donate with GoFundMe through the website www.showupsac.ca. If you would like to donate clothes, please email me at [email protected] and I can make "no contact" arrangements to come to you or you can drop the items off at Pipewroks on 16th and A st on Wednesday from 9 to 4. This is our warehouse where we store, receive, and sort items. If you want to help with providing sac meals for our guests, ease go to the website below and follow the directions. https://baysideonline.galaxydigital.com/need/detail/ I want you all to know that we could not have provided over 6,500 showers, more than 25,000 meals and an infinite amount of compassion, love and dignity without all of you. Wheather it was a donation of cash, preparing the sack meals, dropping off clothes or even just praying for us and the mission we are on. Thank you for allowing me to serve this community. #HappyNewYear2021

In this weird and wild year, these three doors have opened more than 6,500 times to offer a bit of privacy, safety, and warmth to our Sacramento neighbors who are living outside. At the steps of this trailer, 25,000 meals have been served to hungry people in need. Thank you to all of our volunteers and community members who have made this possible with your donations of time, money, prayers, and heart. Show Up is a true living example that when we walk a steadfast path of faith, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus. We are wishing you all a happy and safe New Year

Today's POD (Patrons Of the Day) Cast goes out to...let’s call him John. He is a regular at the showers. He, as we all do, has a story. Some days he shows up and is quiet. Other days he isn't quite so quiet. Yesterday he seemed kind of antsy, ready to get his shower on. Usually we give our guests about 10 minutes to shower. When we have about a 2 hour waiting list and a 300 gallon holding tank, you do the math. Anyway, John got his new underwear, socks, a clean towel and wash...cloth and his hygiene kit. He lit up and said you won’t even recognize me. So people are coming and going. We are listening and sharing and honestly, I forgot what time John went into the shower. It seemed like forever. I knocked on the door and asked if he was ok. He whipped open the door and said, "Do I look ok?!" I was speechless. "WOW!" was the only sound I could muster up. Then I was able to regroup and tell him how impressed I was. He looks like a million dollars. People keep asking me where he was going. Honestly, I don’t know and it doesn’t matter. This individual has been on the streets for a long time. He has good days and bad. He may even have some mental stress. I do not know because I am not a doctor nor a judge. I am just a guy with a dog and a trailer. The one thing I do know is this man, human, God’s child and my brother went in that shower in pieces and came out whole with dignity and pride. He wanted the world to see who he is and what he is here to do!!! You rise, John, and show these people you deserve respect. You deserve to be heard! You deserve a safe place to lay your head at night and you have the right to enjoy the same freedoms as any and everyone else in this free country! See more

Its been a busy year. However, things are still flowing and Show Up is still growing. We are getting requests from other cities to come to their area. We will provide to anyone, everywhere we can. The potential is great. The need is greater and the compassion the volunteers have for our unhoused community is endless. Thank you Heather, Stephanie , Ron, Mark F. , Terri, Shawna and ALL the people from Bayside as well as everyone who has donated their time and funds to get us here. We are committed to providing for our unhoused brothers and sisters. Keep up with what's going on by checking the website out.
