It's always fun to compare modern life to the past, like looking at the original Shubenac(c)adie Canal logo next to the current one. Do you notice any similarities between the designs? http://mvnt.us/m1179866
Wondering what was going on this week at Lock 4? Clintar Landscape installed boulders to prevent ATV use of the trail. #Lock4 http://mvnt.us/m1180046
Have you ever wondered how the Shubenacadie Canal locks actually worked? While we can't visit the lock model at the Fairbanks Centre right now, you can still learn all about it by checking out these videos http://mvnt.us/m1179845
After the completion of the Shubenacadie Canal in 1861, the Avery was the first vessel to make its way across the province using the canal system. For more info visit: http://mvnt.us/m1176145
What makes Grand Lake so grand? It could be because of it's size, or maybe because it's connected to the only fully restored lock in the Shubenacadie Canal system Find out more: http://mvnt.us/m1173793

'Tis the season to spend some time on the ice, just like these Dartmouthians did in 1897 on Banook Lake. Dartmouth Heritage Museum
In 2017 during restoration work for Lock 4, stones were found with carved initials. It's thought that these stones were used during initial canal construction (1826-1831), reused in phase two (1854-1861) and are still in use today More on the story: http://mvnt.us/m1170586
Using American style construction, Lock 6 was build in 1857 to allow passing boats to avoid rough rapids on their journey. Lock 6 is located in Horne Settlement of Enfield and is some times referred to as Horne's Lock Artwork by Tom Forrestall: http://mvnt.us/m1167112

Happy birthday to Samuel Cunard, born Nov 21, 1787. In 1826, Cunard, the shipping magnate who would later found the renowned Cunard Line, served as one of Shubenaccadie Canal Company’s vice-presidents and was also a significant investor.
Many lakes and rivers are host to a family of ducks, making them easy to spot along parts of the waterway. It's important to remember that when feeding ducks they shouldn't be given bread. Though not immediately harmful, bread can lead to malnutrition or contaminate the waters.
We've got merch! Shop online here http://mvnt.us/m1165852
