https://www.thestar.com//demand-for-local-meat-grows-as-ab For all you local folks who get the Eganville Leader, you may have seen this feature article. Turns out this is a province-wide (even nation-wide issue) and the article was picked up by the Toronto Star. This is one of the many dangerous shortages that are out of the general population’s Covid tunnel vision (the migrant worker crisis is another). Give it a read if you have some time.

Hey Folks. If you don't have time to read the book, there's a free preview on in the coming weeks showcasing the case for (better) meat. We're excited to watch it!

Spreading that good sh*^. Feeding and rejuvenating the soil. It’s actually much more than poop. But animal manure is the magic ingredient. Bedding packs of wood chips and shavings, straw, majority cow manure, plus some chicken and pig manure. Add in leaves, garden crop residues, rotten veggies and fruit, turn a few times, and you have some rich compost. We try to make it as much of a closed loop as possible. Some of the shavings are from our local sawmill, straw from anothe...r local farm but the rest is produced right on our farm and woodlots. Most efficient, sustainable, and regenerative way to feed the soil is through direct (grazing) and supplemented animal manure composts (contrary to the anti-meat narrative). Our fields are grazed usually twice after we take one cut of hay. Then we add the additional compost from winter barns and yards every second fall. There is great science out there supporting raising animals and its sustainability, positive role on reducing impacts of climate change, and regenerating and building soil. Educate yourself. Much of the anti-meat narrative is highly misleading. As @sustainabledish and @dasrobbwolf say in their book, Sacred Cow, it’s not the cow, it’s the how. That goes for raising all animals. The how is crucial to having good meat to eat and having a positive impact on the environment. #feedthesoil #regenerativeagriculture #soilisalive #grassfedbeef See more
