Single Vehicle Collision leads to death of Sorrento man. - Salmon Arm RCMP Detachment On October 11, 2020 at approximately 4:45 PM the Salmon Arm RCMP and emergency crews attended to a report of a single vehicle collision in the 3200 block of 50th St. SW. The event was not witnessed and it is believed to have occurred prior to being reported by a person who was farming in the area. ... The investigation determined that the green Ford pickup had been traveling northbound when it left the road, hit trees and flipped into the Salmon River. No criminality on the part of any other driver is suspected to be a causal factor in the crash. The driver, a male in his 40's from Sorrento, was determined to be the sole occupant. Regrettably the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time the BC Coroner's service continues to follow up in their investigation. The RCMP would like to thank Salmon Arm Rescue and Ben's towing for their assistance in this investigation. S/Sgt. Scott West, NCO i/c Salmon Arm Detachment.

Spike Belt Deployment / Two arrested On November 22, 2020 at approximately 12:45AM, the Salmon Arm RCMP were alerted to a stolen vehicle from Alberta that had fled from Revelstoke RCMP officers at speeds exceeding 160km/hr as it traveled west on the Trans Canada Highway.... Sicamous officers were able to determine that the vehicle still traveling west on the TCH toward Salmon Arm. The Salmon Arm RCMP officers were able to deploy two spike belts at different locations. The first spike belt that was deployed disabled the stolen Nissan Frontier pick up truck a short distance away as the spikes safely deflated two of the vehicle's front tires. The truck came to a stop in the Canoe area on the Trans Canada Highway. After two separate short foot pursuits two suspects from the Calgary area were arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle. Both suspects had lengthy criminal records for property crime offences. The successful and safe apprehension of these two suspects and the recovery of the truck was facilitated by good communication across three detachments on the Trans Canada Corridor lead to the safe recovery of the truck and the arrest of two property criminals both of whom have lengthy criminal records.
