This year, Shuswap Food Action Society is hosting the Coldest Night of the Year on Feb. 20, 2021. What is Coldest Night of the Year? This is a Covid safe, family friendly walking fundraiser in support of the hungry, hurting and homeless in the Shuswap. This year, we walk virtually, or remotely if you will. You can choose any 2 or 5km walk that you wish and on any day in February 2021, allowing for plenty of physical space between all the participants registered with the walk. Armstrong-Sicamous Rail Trail Fundraising Campaign The ASTS supports the Rail Trail and as the Armstrong/Spallumcheen area is the link to the Okanagan Rail Trai...l we want to spread the word about the new Fundraising Campaign. Our own Askew's Foods has stepped forward to be the first community partner offering up to $20,000 in matching funds! The launch features a specially commissioned winter greeting card showcasing the natural beauty of the rail trail in winter by local artist, Otto Pfannschmidt. The five-card packages will be for sale at Askew’s Foods for $20 and each dollar raised will be generously matched up to $20,000, doubling your investment! The rail trail links communities from Sicamous to Armstrong and provides an opportunity to unfold the true story within the Secwepemc Nation territory focusing on sharing culture, values, and relationships. The Splatsin are a leading partner in the Rail Trail initiative, bringing both local government and first nations together to work collaboratively towards a common goal of uniting communities and connecting with the land. Shuswap Trails, December 8th, Weekly Update Rail Trail Fundraising Campaign Launch The community fundraising campaign for the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail launches with a splash of colour as Askew’s Foods steps forward to be the first community partner offering up to $20,000 in matching funds!... The launch features a specially commissioned winter greeting card showcasing the natural beauty of the rail trail in winter by local artist, Otto Pfannschmidt. The 5-card packages will be for sale at Askew’s Foods for $20 and each dollar raised will be generously matched up to $20,000, doubling your investment! Fundraising will be focused on building a world class rail trail corridor from the Shuswap to the North Okanagan eventually connecting to Kelowna and further south enhancing healthier communities, resilient economies, and active lifestyles. The campaign is concentrating on the rail trail surface estimated to cost $160 per meter. Two amazing Banff Mountain Film Festival film programs launched on November 26th for the Virtual World Tour! Each of these programs - the Amber and the Onyx - includes multiple films, most with introductions from the filmmakers. Individual programs are $15 USD or bundle the two together for $28 USD.
