This image was taken by photo contest runner-up Helen Huynh and shows the beginning stages of an assignment for IAT 334 Interface Design. One of the first individual assignments when Helen took the course was to analyze features of digital interfaces. Luxury in the time of Corona taken by photo contest runner-up Ola Alsukour. Ola took this photo as part of an IAT 244 course assignment. Students in the course were challenged to create or capture an image that represented a current social issue or that exemplified visual storytelling. As COVID-19 was progressing through North America, some necessities like toilet paper became difficult to find.... Creating my final photography portfolio including this photo was a bit of a challenge for me as COVID-19 interrupted the school semester and everything was shifted to be online. As a result, I had limited access to SFU’s green room, library props, or individuals to model for my photo. Eventually, I created my studio at home and posed for my photo. @olaalsukour @fcatatsfu #COVID19 #photography #visualstorytelling See more

Introducing the SIAT Photo Contest winner! This photo was taken by Melissa Ho and shows her teammate holding a VR headset that Melissa and her teammates Cora and Sahil made for a course project in IAT 336 Materials in Design. Melissa and her teammates were prompted to create a VR headset using paper and wood as the primary materials. Their creative process consisted of creating sketches, cardboard prototypes, 3D renders, and orthographic views of the project before going o...n to build the physical model. The front cover was designed to imitate blinds using flexible miura fold. Using the triangular shapes from the paper, we imitated their angular shape in our flexible exterior frame. It is a single piece of wood laser cut using a living hinge technique and tinted with black tea, says Melissa of the project. Check back later this week to see the two runner up images! @melissay.h @cora_eff @fcatatsfu #virtualreality #vr #siatsfu #interactivearts See more
