During the past few months Sister Cities has been working away behind the scenes. The Calendar Committee has been utilizing Zoom to produce the 2021 calendar which we expect will be available in September. The city Committees have continued to keep in touch electronically as each has worked their way safely through the Pandemic. Below is a picture of Dr Henry, the new male octopus at the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, named for our esteemed Chief Medical Officer of Health. Come and pay him a visit, he likes an audience!

We have been advised by the Town Hall that Mayor Cliff has a family emergency and has cancelled all his appointments for this week. We will post further information once we know what arrangements we can make for Thursday. Thank you for your understanding.

Thursday 19th November 7 pm. Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith will join us via Zoom to present his annual address to SSCA. October General Meeting Great fun last night when we had a virtual meeting with our friends in Anacortes. As always with Anacortes lots of similarities in all areas though we are ahead of them in holding our meetings via Zoom - maybe we have given them a nudge to try it out! We were pleased that Anacortes Mayor Laurie Gere was able to join us at the end of the meeting, though she had problems with her audio, but smiles and waves got the message across! Next month we will welcome Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith for his annual "State of the Town" meeting. This has traditionally been a well-attended event ever since we first invited Larry Cross when he was Mayor, so lets make sure this Zoom event will be as well attended. Meeting will be on 19th November at 7.00 pm.

COMING THURSDAY 15th OCTOBER 7.00 PM! We are going live with our friends in Anacortes! Utilizing Zoom with will be joined by members of Anacortes Sister Cities Association and maybe Mayor Laurie Gere of Anacortes. This will be the first of what we hope will become regular visits with our other sister cities, Niimi and Cairns. You do not need to download the Zoom application to take part, you just need the all important code. And mark November 19th on your calendar = we hope that our special guest will be Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith.

On Thursday the SSCA held its first meeting since February! Employing Zoom, 14 members got together and had an enjoyable meeting where the 2021 Town of Sidney calendar was introduced. The Calendar Committee have produced a lovely calendar under very difficult circumstances. We are planning another Zoom meeting for October; details later.
